New Sawmill for the KMRR

Shawn

Hiking, cross country skiing, snowshoeing
Now that spring is here Im taking a little break from the micro layout and started to build a new Sawmill for my outdoor layout. I wanted to do something similar to what I built on micro layout only larger. I was never happy with the current sawmill. It never looked good in pictures and didn't fit in with the rest of the structures. I ripped all the wood I needed on the table saw yesterday and started to build the frame last night. Today I got the planking down and the roof beams. Next I need to build a storage shed off to the side. The entire edge along the bottom will be done with stone mosaic. Not sure how detailed I plan on doing the inside but probably something like I did with the micro.

Im also in the process of making a logging crane that will go onto a flat car I started to build.

That´s going to be quite a building, judging from the dimensions .... ;D

Nice start Shawn! It's looking good already :)

:o loooking damed good aklready!!

Thanks guys.

Got the wood planks on the roof completed, added some cross beams to the support posts (or whatever they are called lol...) I started to add siding to the side building. This will get a different style roof.

Oh Yes, I like it, I like it a lot!
It will be a great addition to your fine layout Shawn.
Are you going to weather it before siting it in the wild?
'Silvering' new wood with india ink and alcohol is a quick and effective method (I bet you know this already!)

Have a fondness for wooden structures, (ex 0n30 modeler) very nice model, look forward to watching this progress.

Link or pictures to mill on the micro layout?

Thanks again guys.
Mike I was thinking about weathering it rather then waiting for nature to do it. Then I can seal it faster.

Arthur here is a link to my live steam micro with sawmill http://www.gscalecentral.net/live-steam-locomotives/live-steam-micro-layout/15/

Shawn, thanks for link, terrific project, love the atmosphere on your micro layout, bookmarked for future reference.

In a word ,,,,,EXCELLENT :) :)

I managed to do more work on the sawmill. I got the roof on and spray painted it red oxide and then a light spray using camo brown. Today I cleared the area where it will go. used some pavers as a base. Next step is framing the windows and adding some siding along the back. Eventually I will detail the inside but that might have to wait till after the summer.
