Hi all , i am in the planning stage for a new railway and will be modelling in gauge 1 .I was wondering if i used code 250 rail will this stop other modeller's in bigger scales being able to run on my track? I was leaning towards code 250 because i thought it would look better with gauge 1 models . It looks like i would be able to buy it cheaper than code 332 (which is quite important), Any advice would be appreciated.
 
G scale should all run on 250 rail. Gauge 1 often use 200 rail and on this, bumping on the chairs can be an issue with the large flanges we use.
If your using track power, there is an issue with Peco brand points (which are code 250) and pick up skates. The skates short between rails at the frog and it is known for decoders to burn up - I know - I have lost one.

As for cost - look at the secondhand market - there is 332 track offered on this site at the moment for about £3 a foot. But watch out on ebay where prices often get silly.
 
Thanks Stockers, was just the info i was after. i will be going battery remote so peco points will not be a issue , but useful info to file away.
 
I have a friend who uses Code 200 Gauge 1 Rail as it gives him a better look for his almosr Main Line look to his Swiss Narrow Gauge themed Railway. In truth only older G Scale Locomotives (LGB only to my knowledge) with deeper flanges ride the chairs.

Thanks dunnyrail, good to know.The more i look into what's available the more i am liking the look of the smaller code 180 - 200 bullhead rail.I just didn't want to limit who could run trains on the line i am building.Think it would be fun to have people over to play trains:).
 
I had thought of using code 200 but already had a lot of 332 and wanted to join the new stuff with the old and that went in the too hard basket .
I now use both Accucraft and Sunset valley railway code 250 track and points both readily available here in Aus. Split jaw clamps have a clamp
that joins 250 with 332.

Hm not sure about Code 180 I think that may be a bit restrictive for LGB.

Hi Ron how are you going ?. I think i will go with code 250 flat bottom rail for most of the outside run .Cost is a big factor in my decision, maybe even go alu rail and make sleepers and pin it myself. Brunel hobbies in melbourne seem to have alu rail at a decent price.Then i will use bullhead rail and decent chairs for scenic inside part of the run.I have pretty decent workshop so i will be able to make rail joiners to suit.

If you go for Aluminium Rail, make sure that is is not Anodised as this will stop Current Collectivity. Non Anodised is OK. I found this out when making Fiddle Yard Cassettes for my 00 Coal Mine Railway.

I use 332 in the garden because its tough and can stand up to whatever wild life, children and nature throw at it much better. Indoors I use Peco track because it looks so much better.
