Welcome along Kitkatkat and it's good to see you finally took the plunge and joined the forum. If you've been hovering in the background then you will certainly know of our sense of humour and it is perfectly normal. Seeing as you have already been bitten by the G bug you can teach us a few things. Now then multiple large railways? We need photographic proof.

Welcome to the Forum! You will know more about 'proper' engineering than we do, so while your larger gauges are technically outside of our interest, I'm sure we'd like to see some pictures! And your loft line, too: many of us in the northern hemisphere are packing away stock, bridges and buildings just now, so a glimpse of winter activity will give us all a boost.

Welcome to the forum, Kittykat....

Welcome Kitkatkat. I must admit to hankering after a 5" or 7½" gauge loco, one day, I hope!

Chatsworth! It was a lovely house, but I had to let it go as the garden was too big. There was too much mowing!

I downsized to 3 bed terrace. No real garden, no 200ft fountain....but enough room in the loft for a decent G-Scale double loop. I'm currently running an LGB DR layout through a Marklin Central Station (CS3) after upgrading (after 20 years) from the LGB MTS system.

We also run a 5" gauge garden railway in Cornwall, it was 7.25 but we re-gauged after 5 years as locos and stock are cheaper (relatively so). A battery loco, hopefully supplemented by a live steam quarry hunslett in the near future.

Welcome aboard, Kitkatkat.

Welcome to the forum, hope all goes ok with your CS3, some find them problematical with older LgB (MTS) DCC locomotives.

@dunnyrail Hi, so far, so good with the CS3, the visualisation and touch screen is very clever for setting points and signals; wiring is oh so simple. It’s also easy to see the sound buttons, rather than having to remember code numbers. Most of my locos are 2000 onwards so they have transferred over fairly seemlessly.

But, and it’s a big but, the iPad type interface does lack the satisfaction of an analogue switch being thrown (The reassuring clack of the switch, and click of the point). Perhaps it’s a a bit too slick, and removes some of the enjoyment and intimacy - for want of a word - of running a layout. I keep the old LGB MTS III as a backup.

Wellcome to the forum Kitkatkat. 5" & 71/4" ? I need my loft to store all the boxes. Must resist. VAMES lives just down the road at the Bucks Steam Centre at Qainton Rd. Max

Scale on 7.25" gauge, and others, is generally related to the gauge of the prototype modeled. E.G. If you are modeling a 2ft gauge prototype then it will be around 1:3. If standard gauge around 1:8. I have seen some, of US NG that have been proportioned to be near 1:2. Like LGB proportions can get mucked around with even at this level, there are a fair amount of "freelance" types. Max

Take a look here -

What I like about 7.25” is that you can sit in it if it is a 2ft prototype of suitable size or with a tender. This beuty being such a beast, very desirable. I believe in the USA they have a different gauge 7.5”?
