You'd need enough to persuade one of the current owners to part with theirs, Mike... I think there were only about 50 made and I've never seen one up for sale.
BUT, this is available on evilBay Germany, if you've got a shade over three grand to spare.... it's not the Dingler one, it's an Accucraft converted to electric power by Modellbau Frey:

I like it. Its huge, and, as a result, wont likely be on my buy list.
But, like an upper line BMW, one shouldnt really whine about the price.
Big boy toy. Do it or dont.
Its a first world problem innit?
And, as for the articulation, i dare say, for me, its a lot more attractive, as functionally, it will tolerate less than perfect prototypical curves. Wider market, as id guess most arent even using R5. i already have a rigid C19 that barely deals with R3. Its PITA, at time.
Otoh, im still desiring some US ng equipment, or, a nice tender loco.
As for electric vs live steamsometimes i like a single malt, more rarely, a vodka martini. The former is simpler to prepare and enjoy. The latter a ceremony.
Just went to the accucraft site. Accy saxon ivk is 2300. Nicer detailing for certain.
Otoh, Coal fired C25, 5200. Hmmm, i have always wanted a coal fired consolidation. Burnt digits in store methinks.

Somehow, I don't think one will be making an appearance on the PLR.
What I like about this hobby is that there is room in it for all sorts of modellers. I love doing my own thing with cheap secondhand ToyTrain motor blocks, others enjoy watching a live steamer chuffing round their garden, while others like shiny new out of the box offerings from manufacturers.
I admire the ingenuity of the designers of this loco and one day might borrow the idea of a hinged chassis. Or maybe there's room on the PLR for an articulated loco. Now where's my Stanley knife?

The quoted £3K+ is for a very limited-production handbuilt brass loco, Rik, in either live steam or electric versions - the LGB new release VIk that the rest of the thread has been about is going to be around the £1.5K mark - still an awful lot of dosh, I grant you...... but then some folks on here (not me, I wish!) are willing and able to blow £50K+ on a top-of-the-line car, and no-one generally turns a hair when that happens! Add in the sad fact that in ten or fifteen years that car is going to be worth much less than the loco....??
But you're entirely right about there being room in this hobby for everyone, with whatever budget they have - and long may it remain that way!
