New beginnings

A glass hammer!

Building a new link, crossing the Barren Field.

(The Barren Field used to be the Sedum Field, but my daughter moved in with me after a breakup, and brought her cat. The cat loved the Sedum Field and took to doing her "Number Two" there. That's how it became the Barren Field.)

The danger of having to remove parts of the layout for house renovations has passed. Phew! I was so relieved I immediately began to make some track changes I've been contemplating. I can't stop myself from bringing back the 64mm gauge, even though I still don't have any decent rolling stock for it. Long term project, I guess.

Two test vehicles are visible here, one for each gauge:

In the area nearer the Flamingo, I did a thorough cleaning where every bit of track is lifted in turn, and whatever Mother Nature has dropped in the past year gets removed.
Yesterday at dusk I ran my trusty Eggliner. I hadn't run track power for quite a while, but everything went smoothly.

Thomas Wagons work nicely for Gauge 3 track 64mm, I have regauged a couple using the original wheels.

As in, The Tank Engine?
Yes I tend to get ones without faces though the faces are easily removed. Below you can see what I have done removing buffers, adding 3 link couplings, splitting the chassis, my own variation of 3 point suspension and pushing the wheels out on their axles. I think I may have drilled a small hole in the axle boxes as well. Other than that I have left the green color as original. Still needs new lettering.image.jpg
