Need help with best track to buy

What is everyones opinion on the photos of the track I showed?

Looking simply at the quantity, I'd grab it, but ..................

Remember it's second hand, and the areas that are most likely to be problematical are the points. That said, even discounting those, I think there's enough plain track to make it worth while.

I'd come back for a further discussion about points when you have an idea for a track plan. If you have enough room, and if you have enough cash, the general advice is not to use a radius smaller than LGB's R3.

Remember that's a preferred option (the opinion of some people) not a directive, but it's a pretty good steer that will allow you to keep your options open for the future.

Aristocraft use a different method of track joining - a method that I, personally, much prefer. The Aristocraft track profile is very slightly different on the bottom flange of the rail, being a fraction of a milliliter wider. - It's not a problem, but just something to be aware of when joining to LGB.

Aristocraft sleepers are a little bit less regular and hence sometimes slightly less appealing in appearance as the spacing is not always consistent at joints.

With current new track prices, I'd still grab the lot that you've been offered .............. and ask questions afterwards

Sounds like he thinks he'd priced it too cheap

This is your call, as long as you KNOW exactly what you are buying, and you are content that is worth the money asked, LGB I would say, is, one of the best. But it is your decision, we can only provide advice on the information given.

Late to the party!

I use mostly LGB track, but I do have some ART and some Piko as well as a few Trainline points. I am happy with the performance of all these makes.

Although LGB is regarded as the best of the best, the other code 332 track come a close second IMHO….

Go for the lot, I use Aristo, LGB, Train Line 45 and Peco quite happily.

as mentioned, extreme wear is rare.
i cannot tell condition from the photos.

id guess the risk and value is reasonable or better.

Lots of good info posted but I did not see anyone letting us know that if close to salt (read ocean or dead sea) than brass is NOT a choice for track power. Stainless is the only track that will last outdoors near salt water.

How close to salt water is close, 5 feet, 5 yards, 5 miles, I live 3 miles from the Bristol Channel (which is salt water),is that close!!

Depends how you value your time but the model shop at brookside garden centre near poynton (sk7 postcode) tends to have a lot of second hand track and I’ve always found the guys who run it to be really fair with proving. About an hour and a half from Telford but you could make a day out of it?
