My fledgling railroad

Crumbs... Is it really 4 years since I lifted my railway?? Doesn't seem that long...

Anyway... If anyone is daft / bored enough to still be reading this, in that four years we have decided to move (hence the lifting of the track), decided not to move, decided to move, decided not to move, finally settled on staying put, saved up a $h1tload of money and put a conservatory on the back of the house to increase the floorspace, and in all that time there has been a huge pile of G scale track accumulating dust in the shed.

The pond and tunnel that are in the earlier pictures on this thread are still there, and now the conservatory is in place I can get stuck in this year. I did toy with selling all my stuff, but in the end I decided to keep it. In that time though I have made many visits to Germany and become quite into German narrow gauge. I can see my previously USA biased collection becoming more European in time. In fact I've just bought a few of those Newqida coaches to try and give me some motivation to get building (don't shoot me... I know they get a bad press in some quarters, but the bottom line is I'd rather have a hundred quids worth of train rattling around in the garden than a grands worth...). Last of the big spenders, me...

I might even post some more piccies when I get a mo.

Pics please! :D ;D

Ah, Dave with the interesting avatar :D, good to see you back, with a vengeance hopefully :D

Welcome back! - Just read this from the start..
If you are into European narrow gauge, then you need to come and have a look at us.. Just down the road at Chasewater Heaths, in `the loft`. ;) :D ;D ;D

it has moved on a bit since this was taken.. We have the `Harz` end-to-end, and a mainline loop round the outside..
Open Sundays, normally..

I can't even see my avatar! Is it still there? I'm not even sure what it was... A 27 with 5H17 on the blinds, maybe?

That's not the Harz layout that was at Warley a few years ago, is it? I understood that got dismantled.
I'd certainly be interested to come take a look at this PhilP :)

That's the one.. We were 'given' the layout, on the understanding it would be open to the public..
Biggest problem has been fitting it in a relatively narrow (but long) room..

Fantastic. I'm really chuffed to see that it survived. I had never seen it until it was at Warley, and I spent most of the day dribbling over it (sorry about the saliva marks!). One of the guys I work with is involved with the Warley show, and he told me a while later that it was being dismantled as they had nowhere to store it.

Not even sure i still have the original photo of that. I keep meaning to wind 5H17 up on the blinds on 50044, and forget every time I am down there. >:(

I'm just starting out and looking for trains with a Canadian flavour. I notice from your excellent pictures that you've go a few! Can I ask, where did you get the CN Rail SD70? Is there a good UK stockist for USA trains or was it a lucky evil-bay find?

Hi Paul.
Sorry I've not replied sooner. Life has got in the way again so I've not been here for a couple of months!
I bought the SD70 at G-Rail a couple of years ago. It's quite a piece of kit, but ironically it may well end up being too big for the new direction my railway is likely to take. It will most likely end up being for sale again before very long, possibly along with a couple of RS/3's

You'll never guess what.... There's only some track laid in my garden again. It's a simple roundy roundy at the mo so I could test my battery / RC conversion skills, but it's a start. One of the things that really put me off with the length of the previous incarnation of my line was the endless track cleaning. I am now completely sold on battery power I reckon. Expect more frequent updates from now on (and yes, I have indeed said that before!)

A couple of piccies

Wierd isn't it. Just having a stainz pootling around the pond while I potter about is providing the motivation to get on with it.
