If, say, someone with the in depth computer control knowledge that peaked with the Motorola 68000 and 6802 were to buy a locomotive that was fitted with an "MTS decoder" and "MTS sound", what would be the best way to operate this loco? Bearing in mind the rails are dead and half the rolling stock has uninsulated wheelsets. Is there a better way than launching the electronics and fitting Deltang/Fosworks kit? I'm a bit stumped to be honest.

Thread 'NOW THE BATTERY WORK BEGINS Train Line Pffifi 6101 and Mallett Break Down Diagrams any one have a link please? Link provided thanks.'

I will soon all being well be Batteryising some of my DCC Locomotives, to that end have been looking at Pfiffi's underneath anatomy as shown below:-

I see 6 relevant black screws, 2 either side by the cylinders, 2 more by the Couplings and 2 more below the front of the cab. I think these should be all I need to undo to get inside. I am assuming that the Silver Torx Like Screws go into a Metal Weight inside the beast.

A pull apart diagram would be so very useful if anyone can link it, also the Malletts please?

Honestly Paul, I do not remember cleaning track. Ok if some hefty pigeon decides to purge itself all over the running rails, I might blast off the poo using the hose, other than that......nope.

Just had a look at the install you did. Are you aware that the picture that shows the Fosworks "DCC" RX is a bit too low res' to provide any useful detail as to how it is all connected up. Yes, you have a description but without being able to see it I find a little difficult to fully understand. Probably just me as I need to be able to visualise the things. See copy of picture at displayed resolution, although at a much smaller size to that in your original post. Max

Been looking for the original, think the current one was a leave over of de-ressed pics from recent problems. Tricky to find just now despite my organising many of the thousands of my pics.

I have to say that it does make me a little sad that I have seen in quite a number of threads a mention of Fosworks - I know they're good and that Fozzy is a very nice guy - but there seems to be little similar mention of one or our own forum members (who was a member before he took on RC Trains, which was also founded by one of our members).

RC Trains can do most things that Fosworks do - so how a about a bit of balance?

To be fair:
'We' don't do a 'wireless DCC solution' at present.

What we do, is integrated receivers and speed controllers, for 'conventional' BPRC. - This means our offerings are more compact.

We 'can' drive a DCC equipped model, and can normally trigger a couple of the sounds. Depends on what triggers the decoder offers.

The Fosworks DCC offering uses the large scale ESU decoder, which obviously gives a greater fidelity to the prototypes sounds.
But this comes at a price, and the system is not really DCC.

Using this with a n other decoder (setting this up yourself) is not for the faint hearted.

Horses for courses..

Thread 'Converting Accucraft RGS Galloping Goose #2'

Here we go again. Next into the West Well Railroad workshop (ok, onto the bench) is an Accucraft RGS Galloping Goose #2. To recap - I have converted a Goose #7 previously but that was to swap out a 25 year old installation with old rc kit, a tired set of Ni-Cad batteries, iffy switchgear/charge socket/fuse and to add sound. Below that finished installation on the Goose # 7. All that was retained from the original is that big fat speaker.

The #2 was bought "pre-loved" and has never been run other than track power and looks little used. It's a bit shorter than the #7, still...

Let's start at the very beginning, 20 years ago one very enthusiastic newbie enters the fabled GRS store in Princes Risborough. He inevitably walks out with a purchace. He, I mean I, had bought a USAT motor block that was to be "inserted" into an OcCre Madrid tram kit, also bought at the same time. I did not complete this project until another 10 years had passed!
