damage is widespread
we're going to have to lay roof slates under the membrane to keep them out

any tips on getting rid of moles?
the cats don't seem interested

Stick a hosepipe down the hole and leave it running for a couple of hours. Can be very effective.

good idea - drown the gits

As a boy, my father caught one once - put it under a bucket on the lawn and went to tell his father.!!!!!!!!!

This was a big subject in the village local last year , as I recall the best options were 1) Traps readily available but on no account touch them without gloves on. 2) bottles placed into the molehills with the open top upwards, apparently the sound of the wind blowing across the tops of the bottles puts them about . 3) electronic mole scarer. In the end none of these worked , my neighbor he to wait until they had eaten all the readily available worms & they dissapeared on their own.
Poisons are available but not to the general public , you would apparently need a friendly farmer to obtain them.
Cheers Garry

reminds me, when my dad worked on a golf course he actually caught a mole by grabbing the buggers leg as it tried to escape down its hole.
he let it go of course.

Never had mole trouble, however Chipmunks are a nusance, although fun to watch. Bailey caught one awhile back. Actually brought it in the house. The little sucker ran like hell into some crevice. We never did find him, the Chipmunk that is.
Does this look like a Chipmunk killer, let alone catcher.

Think your slate lining option is a possibility Paul, but knowing the moles around here, they will push it up enough to cause problems - it's part of the reason I've gone for a raised bed on concrete blocks.
Would have thought your cat could be a help, ours used to bring the blighters home regularly - but never enough for a pair of trousers!

Best of luck

Rob

thanks for the advice
lots more stones sounds a good idea
saw one of the cats staring fixedly at a molehill this am - so you never know....
look out Alyn :)

I have the same problem with moles. I've found that Ultrasonic mole scarers seem to give protection for about a 20 foot radius. However short of laying your track on a solid base (concrete slabs, etc.) nothing is guarenteed

Yes they do bite! If you could get a spring trap (not sure if they're legal now) dig down to the run, put the trap in and cover over.
