Massoth XLS Custom Sounds

Hi

I have been a long term user of ESU controllers and Decoders but have been recommended to move to Massoth for G Scale.

I have been told by a dealer that you can create and upload custom sounds to the XLS decoder but I have had a look at the software, DCC Programmer and Service Tool but cannot see how you can create custom sound file only upload those provided by Massoth a emotion sound files.

Can you actually create custom sound files fom scratch and if so, how. Alternatively can you modify the files that you can download from MAssoths website?

At this time, it is not possible to upload custom sounds or modify existing sound files provided by Massoth.
 
Esu XL are fine for G scale and will give you the customising options you want. I use the Massoth ones too but they are limited in the range of sounds and the load dependent chuff feature isn't as good as the esu chips.
If you're adding sound to LGB locos with onboard decoders then the Massoth sound decoders are dead simple as they just plug in. I have about half esu and half LGB / Massoth in my locos.
If you already have the esu kit I'd stick with it and it's quite capable of controlling Massoth decoders too.
 
Hi Adam and welcome to the forum.
As Paul says Esu Xl decoders are fine for G scale and would give you the ability to use custom sound files.
The Massoth decoders are good but it's worth downloading a user manual for them. If you are used to the flexibility of Esu decoders you may find the programming options available limited.
