Massoth XL and LGB Function Keys

Some help for a Massoth newbie please. I've just fitted an XL decoder to my LGB Garratt. The engine goes forwards and reverses, lights can be switched on an off and the motion sound works. The whistle can be activated by pressing button number 1 on my 55015/6 key pad but none of the other function numbers work. The list from the engine's manual is here:
1:Whistle 2:Bell 3:Smoke generator off/on 4:Sound off/on 5:Conductor announcement 6:Brake sound 7:Whistle signal ”Crossing” 8:Refilling the coal bunker

I'm using a LGB 55045 with the latest Massoth Service Tool software to programme the decoder. All I have done is change the loco address to 5.

Can someone point me in the right direction to enable the other functions to work?

If you select address 3, can you make the other sounds work?

You may need to disconnect the XL, and then change the address of the sound section.. OR, you may need to select 'something' to pass sound commands through to the mainboard in the loco..

Is this a serial/parallel function issue?

That is what I was thinking of..
The (original) sound system will be serial, so needs serial commands to work..

Orgiva, if you press the F1 key twice, do you get the bell?

I seem to have stumbled on the solution, with guidance regarding the serial v parallel. There's a note in the Massoth Configuration Manual that states LGB MTS I or II CV49 - Bit 0 must be activated for serial function triggering. I did this and, hey presto, it all works.

Thanks for the steers Phil and Cliff.

Does your central station and handset have a "p" sticker on them (i.e. are they parallel enabled).

If they are you can switch the handset into "parallel" mode for that loco. If I recall you should dial up the loco and then press the F button and then 9 to toggle between serial/parallel modes.

You can tell which mode you are in by the number of times the display flashes when you press a function key higher than 1. For serial it will flash the same number of times as the button you pressed, i.e. 4 times if you press 4. For parallel it will only flash once.

Mark, I do have the 'p' on my central station and handset but when I go to 'p' mode nothing happens. Switch back to serial mode and it works. By setting CV49 to Bit 0, will this have disabled the parallel functionability?

Hi,

Have you tried setting bit 3 of CV49 to enable the Serial Pulse Chain function? You will also need to set bit 0, See Attachment 2 in the configuration guide.
