Massoth pulsed smoke generator and DIY smoke oil

I have sent a recently purchased loco to P&S Hobbies in York to sort a drive problem out and Paul tells me that the smoke generator in the loco has been used with petroleum based smoke oil which has caused damage to the casing of the unit and the element. The unit can be rescued but these generators must be used with conventional smoke oil.
The mixture of bbq lighting fluid and lamp oil that I normally use will be kept for conventional drop in the stack smoke units!

As a matter of interest to some, petroleum based smoke oil will soften the o-ring in a USA trains 0-6-0 dockside switcher smoke unit and lock up the drive assembly. In fact, on mine, it bent the connecting rod to the smoke piston to the point of cracking. Their warranty only covers their engines when used with their accessories.

I have high respect for the opinions of Paul from P&S Hobbies so I ordered two bottles of Massoth smoke fluid from Mark of Garden Rail Outlet. I don't wish to cause damage to the Massoth units I've fitted to my LGB/Aster Garratt and a friend's USA Trains Hudson.
I'm now very confused as the bottles' labels clearly state "Contains Destillates (petroleum)"

Paul stated petroleum based rather than oil based, I wonder if the Massoth fluid is based on a distillate that is drawn off earlier in the process? I will ask Paul.
