Massoth Navigator F17-f21

I have a loco fitted with a Zimo Decoder but Functions F17-F21 do not work with the Navigator. However, Functions F22-F28 DO WORK. This also occurred with a loco which I no longer have, and that one was fitted with an ESU decoder.
If I connect the ESU Lokprogrammer to control the Zimo-fitted loco then ALL of the functions work, so the decoder must be OK. Central Station and Navigator Versions are 2.62 and 1.90b.
Can anyone shed any light please?

Which Central station do you have Tony?
Latest firmware for all Central Stations is at v2.65.
Navigator is at v1.91.
There is an update for the receiver also.

I fear you may have found a 'feature' though Tony.

As I understand it, Massoth handles 16 sounds and/or functions (just read the XLS decoder booklet) which was the NMRA/DCC standard.
The Navigator handles sounds in two blocks F1 to 8 and F9 to 16, controlled by the F key to toggle between F1-8 and F9-16.
so I am not surprised that you cant access F17 upwards. I am intrigued that you can get access to F22 to 28 and would like to know how.

Massoth Navigators have a special mode which requires to be activated in order to be able to use the higher F-buttons.

Manual for version 1.92

Page 38 describes how to activate higher Function buttons

Page 12:
The light function is independent from F1 to F28 and is operated separately. If the wheel knob is in centered position the locomotive stands. Speed step 000 is shown in the display. The driving direction of the locomotive is shown with the arrows in front of the speed steps. Functions are triggered with the keys F1 to F8. If a locomotive is operated with serial functions the F1 function will flash as many times as the triggered function. Use the F key to switch the function layers from F1...F8 to F9...F16, F17...F20 and F21...F28. The function mode F17...F20 also offers the binary state function operation from 30...99 by entering the function address with the keyboard. Use the F key as often as required to finally return to F1...F8.

Information from Massoth as of May 2015.

"Navigator update version 1.92 offers stable operation for DCC functions F0... F28 and binary functions up to address 99.

Special Mode A3 needs to be activated to use functions from F17 to binary 99.

The latest Central Station firmware 2.65 fixes known bugs and allows functions up to F28.

In order to use these function enhancements, the R/C may require an update as well.

Decoders need to support the new function address range in order to use them.

Please refer to the decoder documentation and check if decoder firmware updates are available."

Thanks Loco and Authur. I will have to download and read the 1.92 instructions.

Can you access F17 onward's when using a Nav on MTS3 or will it only work when using a Massoth central station?
My nav is currently on v1.89, I assume I need to update up to 1.92 if I want the extra functions? And would anybody be able to update it for me semi local to Coventry?

I'm in Tamworth.. And, you can always pop over to Chasewater again Andy.. - let me know though, as the railway is semi-dormant until March 5th - 6th.

Hi Phil, I could do with another trip over to Chasewater at some point :)

I'm in no rush to update it, or if I don't get any extra features when using it on MTS3, its probably not worth doing...
I assume my wireless receiver would also need an update? Both the Nav and wireless were purchased new in 2012.

Well, this has certainly sparked some interest but here is something I have discovered since my last post.

If I delete the loco from the Navigator and then re-input it, even using the same address, the problem disappears and F17-F21 are now functional.
I have tried this with another loco and the problem disappears with that one as well.

Interesting!
SO,
Andy, try Tony's 'trick' above. - Though you will still need an update to make the additional functions available in the Navigator (et al) firmware.

We are upstairs at the Heaths most Sundays (even if the 12 inch to the foot is not running).. But do check with Martin or myself first if coming any distance, or to see something specific!

This Sunday (Feb.7th) is a 'Drive a diesel' for a tenner event at the Heaths.. You can have a go in a class08. Do go via the Chasewater website though, as this is proving popular, and pre-booking your ticket is essential.

I think 'The Harz' will be less Teutonic and more l-o-n-g haul, multi-headed, bulk-goods for a day!

Just refitted an ESU sound decoder V4 to a loco and when the sound is switched on the AWS bell rings once - this should only happen with F19 !
Similarly, functions F17-21 do not operate UNTIL.......I delete the loco and set it up again and voila !! The functions all now work perfectly.
This seems to have come about since the Navigator and Central Station 1200Z were updated.

Possibly a memory-space conflict.. Not enough space left in the definition of that loco for the extra function instructions, and it does what it can..
Deleting the loco, and re-inputting it allows the extra memory-space to be created.

Of course I could be totally wrong, and the little man in the back of the CS has to sacrifice a chicken while no one is looking!
