I may have missed something but although I have updated my Navigator to v1.90 I am confused about the method of reading CV's. Under the previous version the "Read CV" function was separate from the "Program CV" function. Now that they have been combined I cannot find how to get the Massoth unit to read, for example, the CV address of a loco. If this is correct this seems a retrograde step. Fortunately several of my locos have ESU decoders so they can be read by the ESU Programmer. but this does not work, of course, with other decoders such as LGB or Massoth.

Am I right, and if so, does anyone have a workaround ? ???
 
Methinks you may have missed my point, Arthur.
I have read the notes for the release of the new software and have successfully upgraded.
My comment was that I can no longer read EXISTING CVs as the new release only appears to read CV's after you have programmed new ones in.
If so, then this is a retrograde step.

Hi Tony,

I was having the same problem the other day when I wanted to find out the address of a switch decoder that we were about I install. I had also upgraded all of our Navigators to the new firmware but I hadn't tried the CV programming settings.

I couldn't at first see the CV reading option as it used to be under a separate section, but as you say they are now grouped together.

When you open the CV reading/programming menu, enter in the number of the CV you want to read. Now instead of keying in the value of the CV in the line below, button M1 on the Navigator (left hand button) will change and show the words "CV" and an arrow above it, if I recall correctly. If you click on M1 it will read the CV instead of programming it and should display this on the screen.

I apologise if you know all this already but this seemed to work for me!
 
As Gav says.....

1) Select the CV Read+Prog
2) OK (M2), prompt moves to "CV-Nr:"
3) Enter CV required, press OK (M2), prompt moves to "Value:"
4) M1 text changes to "CV ->", press M1 to read the CV.

This also works for loco address i.e. Press "CV ->" (M1) when at the "Address" prompt.

NOTE: This feature is not available when connected to MTSIII.

Begs the question, how would you use a v1.9 Navigator on an MTSIII controller to read CV's?
ALSO,
How 'high' can you go with functions on MTSIII once you have an upgraded Navigator?

Probably both are answered in the 'pdf' referenced above, but have not got that far yet!

MTSIII dosnt do "reading CV values"!

I have no idea (not checked) the upper function limit on MTSIII.

As the digital newbie i finally managed to work out how to get to CV Read Prog. Very pleased with myself I was. So I thought i could follow the above instructions to find out more about the chip in my ZB Raimund. So I entered CV8 in step 3 above, having read that this should then read out a number for the type of decoder. However in Step 4, while MI text changed to CV, when I pressed M1 again, nothing new appeared on the screen. Tried several times now with the same result. Any idea why it doesn't show me any result? I note the post is 4 years old, perhaps something has change in the Massoth set-up?
 
When you turn on your Navigator, what is the version number of the software it displays? - You should be on '2.something' (from memory, Navigator at Massoth).. The instructions were for v1.90, I believe, from the thread title..

Its v 2.01t

So yes, I wonder if the process has changed with newer software?
