Massoth 8152501 function chip and cab lights problem.

So as the saying goes about a tumble after thinking you are doing well, this my situation.

A few years ago a new MFX equiped loco arrived Crok No.9, which the cab lights could be controlled on/off the relevent one in the direction of travel.
So a desire to replicate this amongst the rest of the fleet has been underway. Twin cabs switchable on/off as per which end is leading, single cab, just a basic on/off.
Crok No 13 (twin cabs) and MOW (single cab) have been wired into their respective Massoth sound chips, all ok.
D4 (single cab) which has LGB electronics with an added function chip for the auto couplers, was done yesterday by wiring it into the above mentioned chip on A6 function output, so it can be done, as there are various lighting options in the instructions

So I assumed (wrongly as it turns out.) that I could do 619 (twin cab Ge4/4 II) which has an added function chip for the couplers in addition to the LGB gubbings, as per D4,, so by wiring them in to the function chip on A5 and A6, set them to the same function key F10 and have them directional.
After all It's how the auto uncouplers work, pluged into A7 and A8 and set to F16, direction dependant, as in the rear facing one works, as per group standards here on all the fleet.

Sounds ok wire in, change a few CV's in the 150/160 grouping, for bulb voltage (5V), function key (F10) and direction dependant as per CV's 153/163, and robert is your mam or dad's brother.
Except it's not that simple, oh it works, cab lights switch on and change direction as to which is the leading cab, but and this I carn't get my head round, the couplers respond as well.
Hit F10 cab light comes on, opposite end coupler drops, switch direction, first coupler raises and other end drops. They can still be controlled via F16, in the normal way, but somehow F10 is working the cab lights and the couplers at the same time.

Obviously I am doing something wrong, I just carn't get my head around the instructions, which are on this Massoth page, I do have the printed one.


Just wondering if anyone can figure out where I am going wrong.

You DID note the values before, and what you have changed them to, didn't you?

Yes, and when I re set them back to what they were, as per the instruction values, the couplers only worked on F16, didn't plug the lights back in as the default voltage is 22V.
I also did a full chip reset, re programmed it, to the values, loco id, coupler settings etc..

Just for reference I thought it was a faulty chip, so I even tried it on a new (as in, it's never been out of the bag until now) one, with the same result.

I seem to remember something about only being able to use A5/6 or A7/8..

But that was a lifetime ago..

We are out at the moment, but I will make a list of values I think should work for A5/6 and we can compare notes. :nerd:

Maybe you could have something there Phil, but there must be a way to connect to the other A1-4, if I can figure what needs to plug in where, even if that involves using an individual "A" per bulb, and then set them to work as I want them.

I would be wary of that, if you are using 'bulbs', as A1-4 are rated for 10mA maximum.
A cold bulb filament is almost a short circuit.

It is late, but these are my thoughts:
Apologies if it seems I am teaching you to suck eggs, but this is for others as well.

A5/6 are switches to ground, so one side of the bulb or LED will connect to DEC+, the other to either A5 or A6.
For bulbs (filament, not anything fancy) polarity does not matter. It does for LEDs.
Do not exceed 100mA.

CV values for A5: - Front light
150 10 - controlled by F10
152 0-100 dimming value, to suit your bulb voltage.
153 1 On forwards only
155 0 On/Off function
156 ? Time - I don't think this one will matter, but it could need to be '0' or '255' Thinking is that the time the function is on or off should not matter for an explicitly on/off function, but this was setup by a Programmer. They think differently to normal people.

CV values for A6: - Rear light
160 10 - controlled by F10
162 0-100 dimming value, to suit your bulb voltage.
163 1 On forwards only
165 0 On/Off function
166 ? Time - see above.

How do these values match yours?

With the exception of direction settings of one of the 1(X)3's to Backwards only, it's spot on with what I have done, BTW dimming value has been set to 20.
It's the same set up with D4, without the direction setting, it's a straight on/off as it's a single bulb and only connected to A6.
 
Hmmm....
I wonder if a sound function is programmed to F10, and is linked to the Pantograph operation?

If F10 was 'spare' it might be being used to link sound and pantograph operation.

Just a thought.
