Marklin Feldbahn loco does not like DCC

I picked up this bit of info. today at the Kent group meet.
Virtually the last sentence in the product leaflet states Analogue Only.
If you run it on '0' on DCC, the circuit board lasts about one minute. The owner had it repaired twice under warranty by Chalk Garden Rail.

Totally agreed. My mantra has always been to avoid at all costs. Fortunately none of the DCC systems I have support it anyway (NCE PowerPro, NCE PowerCab and Fleischmann LokBoss).

Also of course strictly speaking it's incorrect to refer to it generically as "address 0". That's just the way *some* systems select the zero-stretching support, has nothing to do with any DCC address, and not all systems use the same convention. For example on a Bachmann EZ Command it is selected by "address 10" on the panel.

I have over 30 locos mostly LGB (some dating from the late 60’s) together with USA Trains, Hartland, Accucraft, and Bachmann which I have run personally for some 10yrs on DCC. Only one appeared to have suffered with melted insulation, a Bachmann K27 now happily converted to DCC. In fact, that particular fault was attributed to a smoke unit pulling far too much current.

Wonder if anyone has been brave enough to try an older Feldbahn on DCC without a chip. We had the Steam and Diesel on the Ruschbahn both fitted with Chips that ran fine. Well that is a term I use loosly till I fitted the Puffer with a Pickup Tender. Running on R3 dead frogs without that Tender was abysmal. The Diesel was consigned to its box as I remember.

I suspect the older locos had minimal electronics and could cope with DCC simulated DC. From memory I think they had a small board with very few components that was replaced with a specifically designed chip for DCC use, LGB 55022. I think this chip is O.K. with DC
Edit, Massoth do an equivalent decoder, their eMotion M.

Yes I remember on fitting the Tender Pickups that the Chip on Feldbahn was indeed very small and micro surgery was required to get the wires all in place.
