Making a 6 window HSB coach.

Just a man in the middle of a complicated plan.

Have got 8 NQ 7 window harz coaches a few years ago and realizing that the HSB only has 4, something had to be done if I ever got round to numbering stock as per prototype, so out with Mr Hacksaw!!

once in bits, I cut the base out by running a knife down between the sides and base as shown below.

and cut the window section to be removed

and after that I removed the lower part of the ends to drop over the chassis, as I had decided to lower the coach by 10mm as well

I'm now praying my skill level is good enough to get it back in one lump!!

Now to the chassis,

more worrying!!

DSC_0014.JPG
Cutting in the middle and having an over lap to give more strength and placing a strip cut from the old base to fit in the I section of the chassis to give a fixing point to the body when remounted.

The roof was then shortened and with a fret saw the moldings moved to their new locations
DSC_0017.JPG

on the inside the seating which holds the glazing in place had to be cut down(on the left)
DSC_0018.JPG

a refit was done and a loo added
DSC_0019.JPG

the hole thing was put back together and new hand rails fitted, just need new HSB transfares placing in the centre (anyone know where to get them?) and gates, but I'm pleased with the result and all done in a week off work.

Nice job, Michael Troeger in Germany can help with the transfers. Sorry having problems finding the link as he does not sell under his name as such!

You can get the transfers from Troeger - see the 'links' section.
But why not just use the standard LGB one.

Sorry - my bad use of English - the transfers are from Troeger but LGB do the 6 window coach anyway.

Thanks, I did think of that, but as I have 8 already and enjoy a bit of butchery, also I'm not to keen on the LGB windows (a bit big in my view) so I thought I'd have a go at creating my own and at about £36 each, then I wouldn't be to upset if I made a hash of it!!

Well today I got around to putting the decals from Michael Troeger and here's the results
20180205_183839.jpgso can anybody recommend a varnish to protect them?

Humbrol do a Matt Varnish Spray, but I would test it out on a dummy part with transfers before your pride and joy! Nice job.

Thanks Dunny, have a test piece using the cut out window section, I also used it to test the removal of the bottom of the cream upper section to just under the windows with T-cut.
