Main Street,Apache Falls

Riograndad

Model Railroading, boats and oil painting,
Country flag
I needed a western look town,at least a street on the railroad,i looked at kits and pre built bits and decided that custom made was the way to go,after a measure up of avaliable room i had, went out and brought 60/80thou plasticard and strip, tube, square tube in bulk, looked on the net for western ghost towns and made a start, didnt want all to look the same,so made one structure at a time. All wood look was wanted, apart from the bank,so 1cm boards marked an scribed, window and door openings cut then grain obtained using thin craft knife and needle files, normal way i do wooden boards, the general store was the first, door and window frames made in the same way, boardwalks too,the bank was made from 4MM scale dressed stone, and the flag,,,,,yes,10thou plasticard heated over the cooker untill it draped, then painted! All the adverts, lettering hand done with small brushes,no spray weathering on here, all brushed, all fully glazed, now installed on the railroad, overall about 40inches long, all lit with 6v rechargable box battery,10 BULBS including street lights last about 4 hrs per charge, just right for an evening run.Will/may sort some interiors over the summer,if time permits, welcome to Apache Falls. :)

Re: Anyone seen Clint around here?

Really nice looking row of buildings. :o

Oh yes very wild west aren't they. Good work that man!

Very nice indeed. I've bookmarked this thread ;D I need to do something like that (just need a kick start).

Nice work ! You may be interested in prop modeling for the film industry.

Beautiful work there, and so much of it! Coincidentally I have just finished a street model and now I'll have to post some details for 'compare and contrast'. You are talented with signage - I am afraid the laser printer has to perform that function for me. Have you used these techniques before and seen how they stand up to outside life? I think my new street will be left out just for the less windy half of the year ;D

Looking forward to seeing the pics. :D

Thanks for your replies,,,the street was put in last autumn, was outside all winter and only damage in all that wind and rain was the sign above the drugstore, and a bent flagpole!I will post pic of completed instalation soon as bashing a Piko water tower at the moment, pic i have is out of date,, In reply to Via above, yes have used this style before, the other town on the railroad,Los Garagos(next to the garage)has been in situ for 2yrs,some fading but really as was put in.One of the earliest stuctures is the Apache Falls freight depot, and water tank frame, built over two years ago,and the decking is BALSA WOOD,was cheap, quick, and yes still standing, the building and the tank were of course plasticard,The Main St in this post was a rebuild, original was very simple build,no graining, boadwalks etc,and yes please post your town, always interesting what other modellers are up to! :)Ihave pics of balsa bits if anyone interested,?

Excellent! Love it!!!

Superb effort mate.
The detail is outstanding to say the least.
Definitely something to aspire to.....

Possibly the nicest bit of American scratch building. Of buildings I've ever seen. .wow...
