Looking for G scale tracks

I am a newbie who is starting G scale garden railroad here in California - I have a lot of questions - starting from how to quickly get the right type of tracks and set them up. It would be great if I can meet someone in Berkeley area who can help?

Hi Julia. Welcome to the forum. I'm UK based not US, sorry. While this is a mostly UK based forum we have members in the US and Europe. The good thing is the track and operating systems you will be using and we all use are pretty much universal. So, advise on what to buy and how is pretty much the same wherever you are, just the where is different. But that's aĺl web based now these days, isn't it ? A lot of the manufacturers' product is pretty much common too. I might be somewhat US orientated in my own choices. So just ask away, you will find you get plenty of answers. I mean plenty, try to stop us Right, it's midnight so I'm off to bed now, the nightshift will be along shortly Oh, did I mention, the sense of humour around here ?

Hi Julia, I have little to add to Max's advice, also being in the UK, but welcome to the Forum! We like photos, so do post some as you get started: it's always interesting to see what other people are up to!

Welcome to the forum, not sure about the second hand market for track in USA but like UK there are likely to be a few oldies falling off the log sadly resulting in availability of used LGB and other makes of G scale track. Most can be coupled, many are similar rail profile though Peco G is a smaller rail profile but Peco make suitable rail joiners to couple Peco rail to LGB size. Keep clear of Gauge 1 track that has a much smaller rail profile but simikar gauge at 45mm.

Finally if you have not yet jumped with any trains consider Dead Rail Battery Power, saves so much effort with track cleaning.
