I found some seed balls this morning while at grandsons rugby.... I'll try and germinate them in the spring apparently they way to do that is simulate nature, chill them for a few months then scatter on top of moist soil, cover with clear plastic, should germinate in around 3 weeks, then prick out into pots or the ground....
I would only have them in place over winter when they can show off their bark, I don't think a 40cm tree with leaves 15cm across is going to look too real but leafless in winter they should look the goods... The advantage of growing your trees in pots I guess....
