Locomotion now has 2 main halls. The New Hall was opened 2 years ago. With it Locomotion is now the largest Railway Museum in Europe. I will begin with photos of stock in the New Hall:

I thoroughly enjoyed a visit to coincide with the S&D bi centenary celebrations last year . I was a tad disappointed that the new museum building wasn’t rail connected but seeing as all historic stuff seems these days to be shifted by road minerals isn’t surprising!
I also felt the new building could have done with wider walkways but in normal times perhaps it isn’t as busy as on my visit

It is a fantastic display! Nice to see the photos!

You may have had a lucky escape with the Ice Creme van, fellow dog walker shocked at paying £11.00 for 3 small cornets for the grandes. Not sure how 3 goes into 11 but never mind.

The Sans Pareil replica looks a bit different from the last time I saw her...

...a mistake in coupling up the brake pipes, they weren't, but there were only minor injuries the crew bailed befor it ran away too fast.
One was actually encouraged to bail out, by been given a heavy push.

Went last November with my Elderly parents, I have to admit I was left a bit disappointed with the place as space between the two halls felt disjointed and walk (in the snow !) to the old sheds and historic elements of the site was a bit too much for them, It wasnt easy for my mum to get to the main entrance as was not easy to get close and drop her off in bad weather.... Thankfully my Nephew is a curator at the NRM so he got quite a lot of feed back from me, even when he works at York !. HIGHLIGHT was finding the old Birmingham Airport Maglev ! that I had travelled on as a kid many times. Nephew admitted it was really just the dumping ground for stuff out of favour in York. still worth a visit as it is FREE

Ouch !!!!!!! saw it at the 1980 rainhill event
Went with the stour valley railway excursion. My daughter was a babe in arms with a Paddington type label attached in case excitement led me to putting her down and forgetting her!!
she survived and was probably put off trains for life!
