Live Steam Loco, Merlin, or old Roundhouse perhaps

I've been looking for one for a while now, and always seem to lose out on ebay, does anyone have a old Merlin live steam loco that they want to sell?

Either that or an old Roundhouse Dylan, or Pooter?

Having sold off a couple of locos recently the railway is looking for motive power.

You just missed a very nice Merlin that Rails Of Sheffield had on ebay with Buy-it-Now for £595.

There seem to be collectors now buying old 16mm locos from this period and the prices seem to have got a bit silly on ebay auctions.
It can be cheaper to buy a new Accucraft loco.

Worth keeping an eye on what Simon Whenmouth (Anything Narrow Gauge) has in stock, he does get Merlins through from time to time, and anything he sells is tested and working (or if it's not, it's sold as such).

A (reasonably up to date) list and contact details can be currently found http://www.summerlands-chuffer.co.uk/#/anythingnarrowgauge/4557829001 < Link To HERE

Simon's new website is under construction, http://www.anythingnarrowgauge.co.uk < Link To HERE

No connection, just a satisfied customer.

Wouldn't mind one of the Merlin 0-6-0T myself, the one with the full length tanks.

It might be cheaper to buy an alternative, but Merlin produced some of the prettiest narrow gauge locomotives. You do have to look out for them as many are out there, probably in display cabinets, lofts or still running, they just don't appear for sale as much as your Lady Anne's, Edrig's and Ragleth's.

I too am increasing my fleet with Merlin loco's

The Merlin locos with inside frames fixed to 45mm gauge tend to be slower to sell and go for lower prices in this country so if you run G scale you get better deals, outside the UK the opposite is true.

Many thanks for everyones replies so far

I did notice the one that Rails of Sheffield had, but within 1/2 hour of me finding it someone else purchased it.

I have a few Accucraft locos, so purchasing a new one isn't really appealing to me, unless I saved for something in the higher price range.

Other than Anything Narrow Gauge, is there anyone else with a stock of second hand locos for sale?

I'm sure that there will be several Merlins for sale at the Peterborough show next weekend.

Merlin made quite a lot of locos so they regularly turn up but in varying condition.

I really wanted one so paid about £700 to get a near perfect Major from Germany a few years ago which hadn't been run for about 20 years and luckily after cleaning of the old oil and freeing the moving parts it ran like a dream.

Merlin did design very pretty locos sometimes well made other times not so. Roundhouse were engineered better but I still think that some of their freelance locos lack a designer's touch even now.

I have an old Merlin that I am looking to get rid of. It is the 0-6-0 that was heavily based on the Beck one. It has been in buts for a while and has a couple of parts missing mainly the pipe that splits to the cylinders and acts as the regulator. It has a part of the chassis cut out as I was to fit a Merlin Osmotor in it. That never happened. All the other bits are present so far as I can see. If you are remotely interested PM me and I will post a pic on here this evening when I have a bit more time.

I am thinking about selling my Accucraft locos and stock, as follows.

Caradoc ( factory fitted RC )
Wrekin Manual
Mortimer Manual

Caradoc and Wrekin are new unfired, Mortimer was s/h but appears unused.
Stock is L & B undetailed van and two trucks.

Just have to sort out prices.

john.

Most of the Garden Rail shops have a few second hand live steam locos.
GRS and Glendale normally more than most.
