Lil Big Hauler Saddletanker, a few upgrades

Where have all the pictures gone?:wondering::shake:

Sorry, guys but almost ALL of my pictures are gone thanks to the monkeys, I mean techs at Vertical Scope at Mylargescale who did something a year ago very very stupid, and that to this day still will not admit too nor offer any solution to, erased my entire photo storage hosting, erasing over a decade of my modeling pictures. I don't yet have a comperable storage site, quite frankly I just dont have the energy to reload almost a gigabit of pics than reconstruct over a decade of posts.

This is one drawback of digital photography. It's so easy to take lots of pictures, so everyone does. Unfortunately storing said pictures is fraught with danger. Who hasn't lost pictures due to a computer crash?

Backup backup backup. Safest option is to have 3 external Hard Drives (I know cost).
D1 in the House with the latest update on.
D2 a clone of this at a friends.
D3 is out of date at the House (last backup) but updated on a weekly basis or when you have taken enough pics to make a Backup worthwhile.

When you update D1 and D3 one of these is swopped with the one off site. Reason for a second at the House is that if the Backup or Disk fails for any reason you still have a most recent one. A big faff I know, but the safest option. Finally a sticker noting the Backup Date prominent on the Hard Drive.

I have all the original pics still, going back to almost 2001 but what I don't have is an online hosting site for forums like this that requires a hosting site to post pictures. I uploaded some to the Album feature on Large Scale Central and reconstructed a few threads but's limited in storage space, there's also that I can no longer edit the posts on some sites due to their age. Add that I'm just don't have the energy to redo so much. Instead I will probably just add new pics as time goes by.

I have been worrying about the issues of a site just going away. What I am trying to do is type up my Build Content and Layout Content in a Word Processor and then upload to GSC, trouble is I forget sometimes and some of my recent build posts will probably have to be copied, out a painstaking process that is done 1 post at a time. Not too worried about loss of pics on the net as they are all backed up. I think on the old Mad site there was a way to download your threads to a PC, not found that option on here yet. But I would use it if it existed.

You dont need a hosting site to put pictures on here. This site can hold them for you.
Never trusted the 'cloud'. Always have a local backup.

Yep - what Alan says is correct. The only thing I have in the clouds is my head sometimes! All my pics are on an external hardrive and I just select the particular file or pic.

The only problems I have experienced was that a lot of my pics would not upload correctly - and that turned out to me a Microsoft problem. Now I have it sorted!

Alan is 'half right'..
This site exists by the good grace of Paul and Lisa.. If we were to misbehave, there is no saying it would not disappear as GSM did..

"If you do not want to loose it, and are not prepared to type it again, then back it up!":nerd:
