LGB2060 H

Recently purchased the LGB 2060 H Diesel engine used. It does not have a magnet on the underside of the engine. Looks like it was removed. If anyone has a similar engine please advise if what’s needed is the activation magnet 17010 and the sound trigger magnet 17050 for the horn to work, thanks.

the magnet is usually the one in the rails, 17050, and it triggers a reed switch in the loco... onlytrains.com in the US has the parts.

I believe some of the early LGB locos with horns had a mechanical switch triggered by a ramp inserted between the rails. Do a goggle of LGB 2060/3 to see what they look like. There should be a connector for a 9V battery (and possibly a corroded battery!) somewhere in the loco too.

The 2060H requires a track magnet placed between the rails to trigger the sounds. Use an LGB17050 or an Massoth 8420202.

Normally there is a place to stick a "Loco" magnet (LGB 17010 or Massoth 8420102) that can be used to trigger actions lineside (i.e. change points, location detection).

I've no doubt that Mark is correct for later 2060H locos. Early ones used a mechanical switch. Here is a screen shot of page 45 in the 1980 LGB English language catalog. (Hope it's not copyright infringement having given LGB credit.)

Early LGB used to have a magnet attached underneath to activate LGB Reed Switches for Automatic Control. The interior activation of Horn/Whistle as has been said is an entirely different matter. I think that this is what Daniel is looking for:-

Hi Daniel - This is from the LGB 1981 Catalog. Seems the 9V battery may have been a NiCd as the description mentions it being rechargeable. This also shows where the battery (along with the horn and associated pcb board) is located under the long hood. If the horn does not sound when the "knob" is depressed try replacing the battery.

Agree that is what he needs, but the first post asks what he needs, and he does not need the magnet that sticks to the loco.

If I work on the 2060H with the mechanical trip, I replace it with a round reed. The track piece (treadle) can only be used on straight sections, magnet can be on broad curves.

Hi Dan - Unless you convert to DCC or add some timer circuit how do you get it to emit more than a very short beep? As originally built by LGB the horn only sounded as long as the knob is depressed, hence the length of the treadle.
