LGB work train starter set

Need some help, train runs fine but can not get engine to smoke after adding fluid & moving switch inside engine to far right. Any suggestions welcome, thanks

The smoke unit may be a 18V version which, on analogue control, will need the loco to run at a silly speed to work.
It may be overfilled. Use a graduated syringe to fill with 0.4ml to 0.5ml.of fluid.
I find that some LGB units will work with up to 0.7ml of fluid but 0.5ml is a good maximum for test purposes.

Is this from a 'proper', new set? - Sometimes a box is used with second-hand items to make a starter set..
If not brand-new..
1. Smoke unit may have failed.
2. Might be an 18V unit, so will need to run fast to work.
3. If a made-up set, then the Stainz loco may have a silver tab under the smoke-stack fixing nut, under the loco.. This needs to contact the central connection on the smoke-stack. - Early, basic on/off switch.

Daniel, did you buy the set as "New" (even if "new-old-stock") or second-hand? If your Stainz loco has the slide switch in the cab, then it won't be one of the very old versions that PhilP mentions above, but it could still be a set that has been in shelf stock somewhere for a good while. To help identify the exact version of your loco, what is the model number (most likely white numbers on a black sticker) underneath the loco.... and also does it have a small (about 3/8 inch) round GOLD sticker, with a 6-number code on it? If so, what is that 6-digit code?

Jon.

Gentlemen, thanks for your advice. It is smoking fine - believe it was a air bubble causing the issue. Sorry for delay in responding. New to the forum & new to garden trains
