LGB Track cleaner - no flashy flashy :(

Hi all,

Tried to use my LGB track cleaner loco the other day, but noticed the roof lights no longer flash... Just one of the lamps is lit all the time whilst in track clean mode. It was working when I put it away last time. Anybody had this before?
 
The one I have only has one light working.. However this does not interfere with its track cleaning ability so I have not investigated.

Does the one light flash or is it on constantly like mine? The loco still does the job, just annoying that its stopped flashing like it did last time i used it...
 
Simple things first.. Have you checked the 'failed' bulb? - Either corrosion in holder, or has it blown??
 
My cleaner behaved erratically when I "accidentally" told my Massoth system it had 28 speedsteps not 14... :-[ :-[

However, as none of you folk sound like the kind of dimwit I am, then I suspect the solution to the problem lies elsewhere.

One light is flashing and the other one not working. It may be the bulb but I'm not really worried.
 
Well mine was analogololog, one light blinked and the other stayed on dimly. As I was more interested in the track cleaning wheels (which I had to replace) I didn't care much about the lights. The horn fell off the roof though. LGB German Quality? Nope. >:(
 
I have no idea,

but I will offer that on my numerous 2033 MOW diesel pantograph locos with flashy lights-
the circuit is wonky / or the components are wonky, but, they seem to inevitably fail, and
are a PITA to trace the circuit/part

what I have done, and YOU can too...LOL...is to replace the bulb with flashing LEDs, suitable for direct track voltage and wire directly- ie with resistor and diode if desired),
I used 5mm which fit pretty closely to the existing LGB 5 v incandescent sockets. unplug the LGB bulbs and stuff the sockets in the cab, or whatever , and run the LED leads to track

these have worked really well for me, and give a better effect, IMHO, as each LED has its own blink rate-almost but not quite identical to any other LED , and so one gets a very authentic looking out of sync independent strobe flash effect.

I used blue, which is very striking, in all but the brightest sun, but any flasher color works . the advantage is you keep the loco original, bypass the flasher stuff and have a reversible substitute-

otoh....could be a blown bulb...but if it isn't, just a inexpensive solution.

Hi Steve, thanks for the idea, I may well look into the LED option :) Goin to be far cheaper than a new main PCB board for it...
