Nice new 2-10-2 being offered surprising how cutting 4 cm of the length makes it look so much better in my eyes, compared to the old 2-10-2 (which I do understand is a different loco but has the same wheel config)

Not only is it a different loco it is a different gauge, this is the loco class that works the 750 lines. Many of these are located round Dresden but a few work on Rasender Roland on the Isle of Sachen. Stockers will be saving up for one of these once he knows it is about.

I get that but I never thought the 2-10-2 motor block looked right on the other models (ie. 26817 HSB BR99 etc…) it always looked a bit miss proportioned compared to the real thing. Does in my eyes at least seem better suited to this new model.

I am not entirely sure that they have used the Harz Chassis, there has been an LGB 750 mm gauge Sachen 0-10-0 now for a year or two and that loco I believe was upped pretty much to a 2-10-2 so LGB Maerklin have probably done the same thing. I have just made a comparison to my Harz 2-10-2 and to my eye the wheels on the new model are somewaht smaller plus the front of the chassis above the pony wheel is considerably different.

I also think that of the Harz model is weathered the look is much better, the silvered wheel ands are a real spoiler.

Looks good to me. It is the pre–war ‘alt‘ style with water heater on the smokebox. Definitely top of my wish list. I really like the Vik which I have already although the wheels on that look a little large to me.
i think it will be the end of the Rhb on my line. Anyone in the market for a GE4/4 lll and a few coaches including an Arosa driving trailer let me know....

I agree about painting wheel rims. Makes a huge difference, on metal rimmed stock too.

Time to start saving ...

A few screen dumps and pics of my Harz with not a small amout of faffing in Penultimate on my iPad have allowed me to make this comparison duo. Hope it helps clear up some of the wondering with those that are not too familiar with both prototypes.

many thanks. They are very different beasts. It is surprising how much difference that extra 250mm in gauge makes to the size of locos. I like the LGB Harz loco. I think it captures them well. Haven’t been to the Harz yet so haven’t seen them in the flesh. Was hauled by 99 731 in 2019 though.

John, you are absolutely right - we talk here about two totally different locos. Have a look on the technical data:

Gauge 750 mm Spurweite 1000 mm (Meterspur)
Length 10.540 mm Länge über Puffer: 12.500 mm
Height 3570mm Höhe: 3.650 mm
Fixed wheelbase 4000 mm Fester Radstand: 4800 mm
total wheelbase 7600 mm Gesamtradstand: 8700 mm
weight empty 44,3 t Leermasse: 47,5 t
weight loaded 56,7 t Dienstmasse: 60,5 t
friction weight 46, 1 t Reibungsmasse: 47,5 t
speed 30 km/h Höchstgeschwindigkeit: 40 km/h
power 441 kW (600 PS)Indizierte Leistung: 515 kW (700 PS)
tractive effort 83,4 kN Anfahrzugkraft: 103 kN
driving wheel dia. 800 mm Treibraddurchmesser: 1000 mm
bogie wheel 550 mm Laufraddurchmesser: 550 mm
cylinder dia. 450 mm Zylinderdurchmesser: 500 mm
cyl. stroke 400 mm Kolbenhub: 500 mm
pressure 14 bar Kesselüberdruck: 14 bar
# boiler tubes 92 Anzahl der Heizrohre: 114
# boiler tubes overheater 28 Anzahl der Rauchrohre: 32
grate area 1,74 m² Rostfläche: 2,8 m²
firebox surface 6,7 m² Strahlungsheizfläche: 10,4 m²
overheater area 29 m² Überhitzerfläche: 30 m²
water 5,8 m³ Wasservorrat: 8 m³
coal 2,5 t Brennstoffvorrat: 4 t Kohle

And - most important: The 750mm engine has simple BISSEL-trucks while the Harzbulle has a complicated Schwartzkopff-Eckhardt-Lenkgestell

For this new loco 21480 LGB have used the chassis from the V1k and not the Harz tank loco this can be seen from the pick up shoes location on the V1k between axles 1 and 2 and between axles 4 and 5 whereas the Harz are 2 and 3 and 4 and 5. I have a V1k on my layout and thanks to the improved articulation of the chassis it looks a lot better than the earlier Harz locos. Maybe in the future LGB will upgrade the Harz chassis in a similar fashion which would help reduce the horrendous overhang on radius 1 and 2 even on 3 it still offends. The classification V11k did not exist as these locos were built for the DRG and not the Saxon State although they were classed as V!!k by default . Plenty of pictures and German text about the V1k and "V11K" in "Das Bw Wilsdruff" by M Rost and D Schlegel published EK Verlag.

Following a recommendation on this forum I bought the book about Wilsdruff which is excellent.
I have since bought another invaluable reference:
Die DR Schmalspurbahnen 1965 –1990, Wilfried Rettig, published by EK Verlag. Found out from that book about the Gründerla which also used Harz 2–10–2s (and a metre gauge 0–10–0 almost identical to a Vik.)

That would be the Nagold and Altensteig line in the northern Black Forest . G scale models of steam locos that ran on this line were produced by Dingler in 1:32 scale there have been models by Km1. try Nagold - Altensteig Schmalspurbahn im Nordschwarzwald by W Loeckel Published Eisenbahn Kurier in their series Eisenbahn-Bildarchiv - Band 72

I had been trying to decide whether the drivers were smaller than the meter gauge loco, 65 1067's post has confirmed it :nod:

A couple of pictures showing differing versions taken in 2011. These 2 pictures nicely show many differences on what to most may appear to be the same type of loco.
