LGB Southern Pacific coaches

The prices have really jumped up, last time I looked they were £50! Certainly not worth over £200, usually sell for between £100 and £150.
It is a pity that LGB made these far too short and never made baggage or pullman cars to match.
You can buy the USAT scale length metal coaches for £250 each.

Amazing prices for these, two of the coaches fetching an amazing £410 each.
I would imagine the seller is pleased with the sale and doesnt even mind paying Ebay the fees.

IMHO the USA Trains metal bodied streamliners or even the Aristocraft metal ones are far better value especially if you can get hold of the newer Aristo ones with LED lighting and full interiors (as opposed to the 'green' windowed no interior spec of the older variant).

Of course there is the thing of scale...the USAT ones are 1:29, the LGB ones roughly 1:24 and the Aristo ones roughly about 1:24

These or similar coaches were in a recent auction and sold for considerably less than the ebay price. I wonder who is bidding so much as they are not that hard to find although not made for a few years.

Way over the top. As others have said, the USA Trains passenger cars are much finer and cheaper. As well, I believe that the Southern Pacific did not have dome cars, unlike the Union Pacific.

I used to have rake of 6 USAT Daylight livery coaches. Lovely models, tough too, bodies made from aluminium extrusions & metal knuckle couplers. Ran beautifully and could cope with 4ft radius curves and a little bit less. I think they had ball bearing wheelsets.

If one wanted to nitpick a number of cars in a Daylight set would be articulated with common bogies, so no strictly prototypical. Whatever, IMHO the USAT Daylights are some of the nicest looking and most colourful to have in the garden, especially running behind matching A+B units.
