Does anyone know if it is possible to get the sleepers/ties piece for the LGB R3 points? I have recently aquired a number of them but a few have been broken when the were lifted by the previous owners.
Thanks Gizzy but it is the R3 points sleeper section that I'm looking for. The track was lifted after the house had been sold and the new owner did not realise the delicacy of the points. Some of the sleeper chairs are broken allowing the ends of the points to move. Also, the track had been joined by a type of clamping plate which had 4 screws throught each join. I have about 200 metres of track and about 40 R3 points to sort through plus loads of odds and ends.
Those clamps look like G scale fish plates, and are obviously home made.
Looking at the point, you might be able to slot the rail back into the chairs marked with the yellow circle, by carefully bending back the plastic.
The one marked with the red circle where the chair has been 'removed'? Well the slot in the sleeper nearest is the one for the LGB rail-joiner tab. The tab will help locate the rail in lieu of the chair, so IMHO is repairable. You could always add an overclamp type of railclamp for belts and braces. Not sure if the one seen is of that type though.
I've had to do it on the odd R1 point myself. Fiddly, but feasible.
With care, you should get a useable working point, albiet slightly damaged....
If you can tease the rails back into the damaged chairs you can fix them with epoxy glue or even superglue. When relaid, the next track section will give the repair alot of support. I have a couple of points with the end sleeper damaged like this and they now work fine.
