LGB-Point Motor Accesories

Hi Rob
I bought a load of used, good condition signal motors (a few with the searchlight signals) that I though that I could change into point motors but I found out that the signal motor throw arms are shorter and do not have any little pin (or pin and loop thingy) on the end. I then thought that these 'throw arms' might be a spare part...alas no not any more apparently.....So I have now got about 14 signal motors with no use unless I can find the longer pinned throw arms.
I might be able to use two or three of the ones with the signals but the others....
If you find a source of the arms, I would be very interested Rob!

Mike i bought a packet of the throw arms
from the Telford show with the pin only
not the loop, as i had four or five motors
with broken/worn throw arms.

Not sure who from but may have the details in my,
'usefull things'note book, only prob at the moment is
can't find the Book :angry::crying:

Will look for the book again at weekend and see if i have
any throw arms spare, they were a pack of ten for £12,
though the price a bit steep, but bit the bullet as it brought
the points back to life.

Ohhh, now that would be excellent Rob. I have 14 very needy signal motors!

Rob,
I could do you a swap of an older type motor with the loop on the tie bar (and the 'slider' on the top to change the point manually), for a newer type without it, if that helps?

Since it's not hurling it down just now, I've just had a look to see how many I have, to find one on the layout, plus a spare in the shed, a total of 2 motors. They are 2 wire motors, and both are serviceable and ready for use.

If you want to do a swap, PM me and we can sort things out from there....

Hi Gizzy
Thanks thats a real smashing offer, if i am unable to locate/manufacture
any end clips I will sort out two servicable 'newer' style points and PM
you.

Not sure what the manual slider is you refer to though, I have checked
all mine and none with what looks like a slide on the top of the motor
seem to move
If I get time on Friday morning, before I go to work at 1 pm, I'll take a photo of the spare I have and post it here, with the slidey bit highlighted....

As promised per last post, a couple of pix of the older style motors.

Set for the left route.

Slider thingey highlighted in red and loopey bits in yellow....

And another, but this time set for the opposite direction to above....

That is what I need........... Even if it is the older design of throw arm it would still make 14 signal motors good for switch motors!

Mr Parberry here has kindly sent me some very detailed photos of the offending bit. I am sorry to say I am unable to make replacements with my kit and experience.
If anyone else whats a go at making some, PM me your e-mail.

I'd also be interested in replacement throw arms. I bought a job lot of LGB stuff recently and there are about 20 signal motors and no signals. It would be good to be able to use them.

Thanks for taking the trouble to take a look

Its begining to sound as if any one can come up with an idea
for this and/or the longer throw arms.
There may be quite a demand.

Hi Gizzy
I don't have any motors with a slider on the top at all
I have taken a proper look at what i have got and the one thing i
can say is the loop on the end of the throw arm, seems to have
nothing to do with old/new motors.

From what i have there appears to be 5 diferent 'styles' for want
of a better word, on top of the one you have

Plain top - no slider at all and no number
Small raised piece (solid) where your slider shows
Small raised piece (removable) where your slider shows
Large raised piece (solid) where your slider shows
Large raised piece (removable) where your slider shows

All of the above have a mix of either the plain throw arm or the
throw arm with a loop :bleh:
And there are 3 different throw arms, which seem not to be
interchangable

for instance - Plain top - no number - no loop

Large raised section open - with loop

Any way - you should get the picture by now, there is no standard
new/old - loop/no loop, or throw arm.
The throw arms are also diff sizes :bleh: width thickness and as
with Gizzy's Shorter.

So that sort of B@@@@rs up the idea of manufacturing any
on a mass produced basis. :wits:

So i am back to Square one, does any one haveany of these end
pieces in their bits box going spare happy to buy

Hi Rob
The bag of throw arms that you got from the guy at the show...was he selling more bags or was it just a bag of spares that he had?

Mike not sure
There were trays of stuff on a table and people were packing up.
so I didn't have much time left to look,
I picked out a card of LGB lamps, a packet of 6 brake pipes,
a packet of 6 buffers, a pile of chain in a plastic zip lock bag,
a point motor (which does not work at all :crying: ) and a few other bits,
then I saw the packet of throw arms, gulped at the price,
but thought what the heck and just stuck them on the pile.
I do remember thinking it's only a small pocket full, but the total
was £49 and thought OOh poop - hope the boss is still looking at
the post cards (bless her) she was

I keep thinking of the Spares Man, but not sure it was him ???
I have Found the packet, not a lot of help though, it has a little white
label on it, which just says - 10No £12

There are only two arms left in the packet and they are badly worn
so i think i have swapped them all over all ready.

I do remember a man and woman maning the stand though ??

Need to find my note book :impatient: the one i keep well hidden
Cus it's got way toooooooo much info in it, my mate recons i should
burn it, before it comes up in the divorce case.
{hope he is just kidding :nail:}
will have a better chance to look Saturday afternoon, while i am filing
the Araldite of my latest attempt at making a working end piece :rolf::rolf:

Sorry I have had a look but not one of mine has a converter attached?

Sounds like Sparesman aka Tony le Grys is the man? His wife I think is Joan. He's a member of the G scale Society, but I don't think he is subscibed to GSC.

I can't find a website for him, but he hails from Nottingham. Fred, Nemo or Steve Parberry might know of a contact number or e-mail for him. He's very helpful, so it's worth giving him a shout....
