LGB point lanterns - connection to motor

I have several LGB point lanterns which I bought second hand a while ago but never got around to using now that I've looked at them I thick there maybe a connector part missing. I've looked through all the bits I got at the same time and there seems to be one connector that clips onto the end of the point motor arm and then I have another point motor which seems to have a special arm with the connector built in. The connectors have a hole that appears to fit a peg on the underside of the rotating lantern part. My question is were the connectors supplied with the lanterns when new and how many point point motors have the special arm which needs no adapter part?

There was a whole post dedicated to this a couple of months back and it was established that all you can do is make a suitable alternative...cant find it at the moment but its here somewhere.

Steve, some LGB motors come with the loops/lugs already on the tie-bar, if you can source these?

For the ones that don't, then you will need the loop/lug that originally came with the lanterns, but they do seem hard to come by these days?

Try Tony le Grys as posted by Steve P in his link....

Did the lanterns always come with the loops or were some sold without them?

AFAIK, they came with the loopy lugs, but they often get lost when sold on?

I can take a photo of a spare one that I have if you want Steve....

I have one of the push-on lugs and one point motor with the arm with looped end but have about ten lanterns to will have to decide what to do with them.

I have found that long term the lanterns place too big a load on the EPL motor and points fail to 'switch'.
The cure was to put 2 epl drives on the points and just the one lantern.

Over the years LGB have developed the design of the EPL drive to make it more effective:

They removed to manual switch from the top of the casing and re-designed the magnet.

Later the size of the pinion was increased and this affected the tie bar and the top case.

The loop on the ends of tie bars were initially full depth, but these were found to sometimes strike a rail on the point being operated so they were tapered. After this they removed the loop from the end of the tie bar and a clip on version was used.

The main downside of these is that they are easily separated from the lantern and lost. At one time LGB supplied these and all other EPL parts as spares on demand, but this stopped with the take over.

Sometimes the lantern can be a load too far and stop the point changing properly. Trial and error! I sometimes have them lit up and not operating - I just like the pretty light!
