Apologies as I'm sure this has been discussed elsewhere but I can't find the information I need.
I've also read online copies of the LGB instruction manuals to no avail.

What is the approved method to change from serial to parallel function operation on an MTS 3 or late parallel MTS 2 system?

Yesterday I managed to do this on a mates' system when demonstrating a decoder installation I'd performed. However it was by pure luck and I may not be able to repeat it!

He had specified parallel only operation, however only function 1 appeared to work regardless of the button pressed. I guessed this was an indication that the controller was set for serial.
The dark recesses of my memory came up with the idea of pressing both the F and 9 buttons simultaneously for a couple of seconds. This seemed to do the trick. However I'm now unsure if it was the zero rather than 9 button.

My questions are:-
What is the approved method of achieving this?
What other "hidden tricks" are achievable?
Where may I find official documentation covering the above?

FYI a copy of the official documentation is here:
https://www.trainli.com/USER-GUIDE-PDF/Accessories/lgb-55015-user-guide.pdf
See page 48, text copied here:

"MTS components upgraded to "p" still can send loco
functions in series, for example, if not all components
have been upgraded or with older locomotives.
Press the F and 9 buttons to trigger functions
parallel for the selected loco address. If you are using
several remotes, this has to be selected for each remote.
Please note that parallel activation of functions works
on with recent locomotives that are equipped with onboard
decoders. If functions do not work with parallel activation,
press the F and 9 button again to re-select activation
in series.
The selection "parallel" or "in series" remains active
for each loco address, even when the remote is switched
off. If the loco address is assigned to a different locomotive,
this setting may need to be adjusted accordingly."

Remember also that when you press F8, parallel is instand and serial takes about 8 seconds as the pulses are spaced approx 1 second each.
Real fun with the mouse as you must press the upper right key 8 times for F8.
