I have a LGB 70255 MTS digital starter set I purchased Second hand.
It has a Diesel with flashing lights and
Steam loco with smoke.
It has a central station type 2, transformer and 55016 remote.
The locos run forward and back but there is no lighting of any sort from Either.
Any ideas.

Try button 9 on your hand set for each loco. This should switch the lights on....

I think button 2, may switch the cab-top flashing lights on?

Glad I could help....

I managed to get a couple of flashes but that was it. Another wiring glitch maybe.
I have a NCE throttle as well . Will that work for this set ?

I can't help you with that one but I wouldn't have thought so....

Ok there is a well known issue with LGB and the speed steps, this can cause strange events with lights in particular. I am well out of it with LGB MTS now having sold all my control gear with manuals some years back.

Perhaps this note may jig someones memory with a ‘how to fix’ it solution.

I still have my old MTS 2, but it's in storage at a friend's house. I think you are refering to the series/parallel control issue JD?

I guess as Camaro brought this as a set, it should have retained its original factory set-up, but the previous owner may have tinkered with the system.

The flashing lights issue, I would suggest press button 2 once and wait for a few seconds. if the lights flash and stay flashing, then press button 2 again to switch them off. Sometimes there is a delay before they work.

And the rear loco lights? Check the bulbs are tight first. If that doesn't fix the problem, swap the bulbs out with the front working ones. I'd be surprised if it was a wiring issue, so check the simple things first before investigating further....

I found this link to the manuals On Goggles....

Not sure it was a serial/parallel issue but to do with speed steps.

Chaps, the flashing lights the OP refers to are the amber lights on the cab roof, not the headlights.

And as he brought the 70255 set, I would expect that the MTS 2 system is compatible with the 2 locos within, thus having the same speed step set up.

Let's not confuse Camaro please....

If the LGB 55005 does NOT have the P sticker then it is only able to run serial programmed engines. LGB did update later versions to parallel hence the P sticker which is needed for both the 55005 and the handheld controller 55015 and 55016. If no P sticker then function 2 is 2 presses of the 1 key, F7 is 7 presses of the 1 key. To enable parallel operation one must hit F key followed by 9 and at approx.1 second intervals. Also note LGB shipped all the older MTS engines set to serial mode as anyone with MTS can run these with no changes. If you change an engines address you must once more hit F9 for Parallel operation!!
When LGB shipped 2 engines in a starter set the address were 2 and 4, not the common default of 3 that all other engines had.
Another note 14 speed steps is CV 29 set to 4.
I did not check Greg's site43 to see if this info was there as it is very important to under the old LGB way of doing DCC.
