LGB Field Diesel loco for KLM

An alternative to the Feldbahn diesel with potentially a more robust gear train is the Bachmann Davenport or Liliput Dieselok V3. I've seen it used in one of the German magazines and with a little modification it looks passable - cheap too... I know it's not LGB but mine's a great little runner and mixes well with all my other LGB stock.

Hi All

Many thanks for all the advice, will be used to shunt wagons around the Yard so should be fine.

Hi

Note use of magnetic screw holder has saved many a potentialy lost screw highly recomended.
Chipping will involve temporay fitting of Massoth Xl decoder pending some current load testing and switiching to a decoder with sound hopefully.

Quick check and found out the XL decoder is to bigg to fit under the bionnet due to the large amount of lead.
Decived the loco need to go on a post xmas diet and a lot of people have commented that ther is a lot of weight in this loco, as it will only be used for light shunting duites a small loss of weight should reomove some pressure on the drive train.

So a quick vist to Mr Bandsaw and we are a shade lighter and have space for the decoder.
Blue tape to ensure the decoder cannot be shorted out on the lead weight.

Hi All

On the programing track as default address is 3 and want to change it.

All other programing can be done through on the track programming function on the Massoth system.

Address speed steps and lowered voltage for the head light bulb all programed in.

Hi All

Will be working on the mounting of lights for front Cab and Rear, aslo some detailing items, whislt deciding on a paint job.
Total current comsuption test to be carried out and then I can chose a smaller scale decoder and hope fully find a sound board.decoder for a diesel hydrolic loco can any one suggest.

Regards

Mark

Great work! Where did you get the wheels from? I saw some on eBay Germany but they wanted 60 Euros for postage to the US...seemed a bit excessive. I recently bought the 0-4-2 steam version (Olomana) with the same worn gears as yours, the buyer told me it didn't run but for $99 I thought I'd take the risk and see if I could repair it. But on further investigation it appears that I've got even bigger problems as the axle holes in the motor block have worn oval causing the wheelsets to flop around. Not sure what to do with it now!

Cheers, Glen

I would have thought a diesel mechanical sound would suit this loco better?

One of the US On30 sound decoders might do the job....

I'd go for either a Massoth LS (driving and sound decoder all in one, and considerably smaller than the XL), or for a Massoth M (the tiny driving decoder specifically built for LGB's smaller locos like the Feldbahn types) plus an S module for the sound - this option would take up even less space than the LS, as the M unit can go in the tiny chassis pocket ahead of the power unit (it's made to go in here) leaving the space under the hood for the small S unit and the speaker. Both the LS and S units can be programmed with any of Massoth's sound files, which includes one specifically for the Feldbahn diesel - listed under 8220091, "Light railway diesel" in the XLS sounds list.

Hi Mark. Good work, it a great little loco, ours does sterling work. From experience servicing ours I once lost the little ball bearing the works as a thrust bearing I guess on the stub shaft out of the non gear end of the motor. I guess you've noted the bering and not dropped it on the floor like I did!
If you not sure what I mean I can drop the cover plate off mine tomorrow, take a picture and try and measure the bearing size.

nice work Mark!-now, all told, how much do you have in this little 'bargain'? LOL
and where pray tell will you mount the speaker? i could see either opening the holes in the front grill and mounting the speaker behind, -or- in the cab roof-youre going to have a great little loco when youve finished-cant wait to see your paint work

Glen, i would simply try to find an entire diesel and swap the chassis motor wheels etc into olomano-it will work
the other option would be to create some sort of bushing for the worn chassis axel holes, and of course new axels-i imagine that your little olomano has some serious miles on it to have worn the axels like that

Thanks for the help guys. And sorry to hijack your thread Mark, didn't mean to! I'll start a new thread in due course once I decide what to do with my loco. Yes it's certainly had some serious use, apart from the worn axle holes in the motor block it's also got wear on the wheels - and I don't just mean the plating, the wheels themselves actually have a small grove in them! I'll probably end up sticking it on eBay and selling it for parts.

Thanks again! Glen

If anyone has a dead one of those that they are willing to part with, at a reasonable price, I would simply remove the junk drive and replace it with an Aristo centercab block. Those are bulletproof tough in comparison.
