Has anybody fitted a decoder to the LGB RHB control car so that the directional lighting works in digital? Which decoder would you need?

Though LGB do a Coach Lighting Chip 55034 reading the awful instructions just now they do work Interior and Marker Lights. However I am not sure that a reversal of your Train would give you what you want.

So

I would suggest a 55021 Loco Decoder that you should be able to pick up for not a lot of Money, this will allow the ‘Face’ Lights to come on depending upon direction of travel. A Massoth Small Loco Decoder would do the same thing but you may find the price somewhat higher.

Also it is possible that a small LGB 55022 Decoder may do the same job if someone can confirm.

Either of the LGB Decoders I mention should be available at sub £30 quid second hand these days.

Thank you for the comprehensive answer. You mentioned Massoth decoders and I see they do an eMOTION Melody decoder specifically for the control car. Do you know whether this would rectify my lighting problem as well as adding the sound dimension?

Sorry have no knowledge, suggest you go to their Webb Site in English and download the Instructions.

I had a decoder fitted in my control car a few years ago at which time the car was assigned its own address on the Massoth. When the car is used on a train that address is activated ensuring that it is running the same direction as the rest of the train will be running.

I then activate the address of the loco to be used and off we go.

I think that interior lights in the control car may be controlled by the same decoder (which I think is a Massoth) but I would have to check as I've not run the train for some time. It is possible that interior lights are controlled by the switch under the car rather than the decoder. Give me a couple of days and I'll give the train a spin to see how things work . It will give me an excuse to get the train out!!

In the meantime here's a pic of the train running a few years ago. Headlights are on but interior lights don't look as though they are on:

If a Loco Chip is used the interior lights could be controlled much a Keith says by a Loco Controller using the internal Cab Light Link.

There was a very good thread on this in 2011:

I followed this when fitting a chip to my trailer earlier this year. I obtained a second hand chip from Garden Railway specialists but Modell Land also do a new version, outwits their €18 postage.

Thanks for everybody's input. I now know what I need to do to sort out the lighting. Probably not bother with sound.
