LGB Container Wagon Wheel Set Control Kit

Hello All.. & a very Merry Christmas.

I have a LGB Christmas set with R1 curves. The wagons have gotten very squeaky, I have some synthetic lube oil on order & will try that.

I'm seeing LGB have "Container Wagon Wheel Set Control Kit" but they come in a Ten Pack - I only need 2 right now & possibly one or two more in the future.

I have a few questions, has anyone here used these wheel control kits for squeaking plastic wheels?

Metal wheel sets a better option to cure the plastic wheel squeak?

Thanks for any advise & have a very Blessed Christmas

i am using LGB and other (cheaper) rolling stock since 1970.
mostly with plastic wheels. and using R1.
what starts squeaking, gets a small(!) drop of sewing-machine oil.

Metal wheel sets a better option to cure the plastic wheel squeak?
oh, yeah! - better and more expensive.

and a merry (and un-squeaky) Christmas to you too.

I think you will find the control set is to do with keeping the stock from derailing when being propelled (pushed) through R1 reverse curves?

Do make sure your oil is 'suitable for use on plastics'..

Hm never come across squeeky plastic wheels before. I only use the LGB 50019 (other equivalent types are available) on axles both metal and plastic, very small amount can be applied from the needle type applicator. I also use nylon washers where there is excesive flop in the wheel fitting, not all vehicles require this, sometime reversely even the same cat no. of vehicle can be different.

Thank you all....
I haven't had one de-rail on the R-1 curved set that runs around my Christmas tree. So I'm glad I didn't order the control set, at least not yet.

I have "Super Lube Multi-Use Synthetic Oil with Syncolon" on order, it looks to be completely safe on about all plastics. It isn't recommended for rubber compounds so I'm pretty sure it'll be safe on the LGB wheels.

I had cleaned both track & all wheels before I laid the track down. I made a roadbed from plywood for the train to run around the tree, I didn't want that black dust I had heard about here to get on my wife's carpet.

I'll let you know how it goes in a few days when the Super Lube arrives.
:)

Yup, the squeaking is to the point it's ruining the experience.

I hope this Super Lube Multi-Use Synthetic Oil with Syncolon is the answer.

I'll check on the wheel slop when I get the lube, maybe that's part of the issue too.

Thank you

It will be a 'dry' axle-end, or tube if the axle is supported between the wheels.

Less is more! You only need a tiny drop of oil.
Anything not in the bearing, or running down the wheels needs wiping off.
Too much will collect fluff and 'grit' and remember that carpet!

Squeaking may also be out of gauge wheels on an axle, or an axle that is tight so does not spin freely.
If you flick the wheels round, they should spin quite freely..

I used a plastic safe silicon grease made for R/C vehicles, at Redfin Models in the UK....

I will definitely check all these finer points of rail-roading.

Yep!
The finer-points, include the 'politics and negotiations' of running-rights, with the Domestic Authorities.
:D :D :D

Enjoy you Christmas trains!

and after following each and every advice received, a certain new member from Michigan will think: "a lot of things for a mere four weeks running..."
... and start to look in the cellar and the attic, where a permanent layout could be squeezed in.

then, you are hooked for life.
Gotcha!

You're right, unfortunately I have several hobbies & just never have time to get a permanent G-Scale railroad up & running.
For now I'm settling on getting this Christmas Train running enjoyably.
:)

So? You can hve as many hobbies as you like!

as PhilP said: Our work here is done..

i think, he has bitten. bait, hook, sinker and swimmer.

other hobbies? some just disappear, because they are physical hard, others don't survive the lower retirement halfsold, "darling-do"s are victimised by bad hearing, smaller scales and stamp-collecting go with ageing eyes...
... oh i forgot: fishing. being sunburnt and bitten by mosquitoes looses a lot of attraction, when one can't hear "Darling do" anymore.

Well, I'm semi-retired. I work part-time at a small rural hospital in the maintenance dept. Still an active Volunteer Firefighter since the late 1970's. Dabble in woodworking, have a saltwater aquarium, so my days are filled. Throw in a few of the grandkids activities ........
With our climate of snow on the ground from early November to the end of April, an outdoor setup would be challenging at best. & space is limited indoors for a large G Railroad. (I have a n-scale all be it mostly boxed up, I have plans to get that out on a permanent road-bed ).

Anyway..............

Today I received (Christmas Eve) the Super-Lube. I put the lube on the plastic wheel axle spindles, still squeaked but a little better.

I ran a Q-tip with the Super-Lube on the inner rails of the LGB track, magically all is Quiet !

Have a blessed Christmas All......

Aha just like the real thing where oilers are employed in places due to flanges shrieking on tight curves.

I ran into this on-line store in the U.S. not sure if they ship to the EU where many of you are located. I'm looking to add lights to the trolley cars & they have just what I'm looking for.

TRAINLI - LGB and G-scale Experts

They sure seem to have more LGB train repair parts & other items than any-other supplier.

Have a great 2026 everyone
