Thanks for all reply's so far, So is a 55021 decoder a Serial or Parallel decoder ?

Looking at the model I bough I would say it has been a shelf Queen most of it's life :), there is next to no wear on it anywhere. After reading more last night about this model I agree that it would seem they were only DCC ready and the decoder was an add on.

Here is the manual for 55021 decoder:
https://www.champex-linden.de/download_lgb_bedienungsanleitungen_ab_2008/m55021.pdf
I think it supports serial and parallel function commands, see CV51-53, but all you can change is the function key for directional lights, and why would you want to change that from the default?

I don't know whether the built in sound card is programmable or whether you are stuck with the factory settings.

Today I decided to put the Loco back on the programming track and when it asked for the decoder type I told it it was a LGB 55021, told it to read all the CV,s and the engine did the shuffle up the track as it should do. Then I thought I'll change it's address from 3 to 5 so it doesn't conflict with one of my Stainz's .. the CV wrote OK read it back and the address had changed to 5 so opened a throttle in the Sprog software to test if I could control any sounds now and nothing at all :(.
The engine won't move no sound control or anything so I put it's address back to 3 and tried again and still nothing since I changed it's address I can not talk to the engine either with a throttle on the programming track or on the main track with the DDC setup, If I flip the dip switches in the Loco everything works as it should in old school mode :)

Bit lost now I can talk to the decoder in program mode read / write CV's but I don't seem to be able to talk to it to run the engine, it's like the decoder now has a different address to the sound card it's attached too which isn't possible , I assume the sound / main board has no address ??, it worked apart from not be able to control sounds till I changed the dam Loco address.

Yes I made a back up but after I changed the Loco address :mad:

Reset the decoder, per the manual.

I would disconnect the sound decoder until I had it figured out.

Greg

The sound decoder is the main board in the Loco factory fitted so not possible to disconnect it really, still looking for instructions how to reset the decoder only instruction I have found is change CV 55 to reset, but not found what you change.

Sorry, remove the 55021, connect just to it... reset it... it really sounds like you have 2 decoders in parallel. If true, that wreaks havoc on the programming track.

You might be able to turn the sound decoder off with the switch in the loco...

To reset you write 55 to CV55, found that in an old post by Muns

Good luck

Greg

As Greg says..
Just the 55021 on its own.. I don't think the Sprog will like the bank of capacitors in the loco!

It doesn't like them if you leave the Loco turned on, it will only read and write to the chip if the switch inside the cab is set to 0 , I will have to put the 55021 in a stainz at the weekend and reset it, as it was on address 3, I assume when it was added then probably nothing on it was changed, me changing the address seems to have confused everything :)

Writing 55 to CV 55 doesn't seem to reset the chip where it is, which is why I will try it on it's own.I put the address back to 5 tried the reset and the address didn't return to 3 the default.

You will need a motor, as a load, for the CS to know it has worked..

55021 now connected to a Stainz Motor Block assuming I have done this correct writing 55 to CV 55 doesn't seem to reset it, the Loco does a short shuffle as it should do, but the address remains at 5 so does that mean it hasn't reset the decoder ?

I can use a throttle in the Spog programmer and move the Loco backwards and forwards OK on address 3 or 5 haven't tried any others.

Decoder Pro is setup as Direct Bit, hence changing the address works, CV's 1 to 4 will change as requested in Direct Bit.

For CV5 and upwards, requires the use of Register Mode.........entered as a two step configuration.

CV55 to be entered as a two step operation in Register Mode, CV6 = 55, then CV5 = 55................

Writing CV6 =55 then CV5 = 55 has defiantly reset it back to the defaults thanks, now it's fingers crossed that I have control again when I put it back in the 28002

Good news and Bad , decoder now back in the 28002 and it responds to the throttle just, it moves backwards and forwards at a snails pace, like it's not getting enough power it did the same on the stainz motor block as well just crawled rather than moved as it should do. F keys have no response can not turn lights or anything on. The 28002 motor block runs OK as I tried it old school when the chip was out and it runs and behaves as it should do at speed.

When you reset it did it go back to 14 speed steps? Could that be the problem now?

Hi LGB-Sid,

Might I suggest you try the following settings: CV2=0; CV3=3; CV4=3: CV54=2
CV61=0; CV62=255;

Hi LGB-Sid,

Might I suggest you try the following settings: CV2=0; CV3=3; CV4=3: CV54=2
CV61=0; CV62=255;

MTheStrong

Just found the basic speed problem as I used CV6 =55 then CV5 = 55 to do the reset then CV5 was left on 55 just changed it to the correct default value of 255 and I now have the correct speed response on the throttle, still no control over sound functions at all yet.

CV2 was on 0,
CV3 was on 3
CV4 was on 3
CV54 was on 72 now on 2
CV61 was on 0
cV62 was on 0 now on 255 what is Adjustment strength for ? set to 255 the Loco moves, but moves stops, moves stops while trying to speed up if set to 0 it moves smoothly as it speeds up.

I note from #50 that you have CV29 set to 4 which means 14 speed steps. Try setting CV29 =6 which means 28 speed steps. CV62=0 means no adjustment strength. Since CV62=0 works leave it that.
