LGB 26813 or 26815 DR Steam Locomotive

I think you'll find the marklin connector is the odd one out but the ESU decoder just plugs in if you chop off the equivalent blank pins, I've put the details in my thread on Rhatia which also has the new socket. Pics of what the pins are, are on page 16 of the manual.
Personally for the better sound I'd go with the ESU any day and it's only getting around to it that I haven't binned the factory sound on my earlier spec 7222 and changed mine to ESU.

Have to agree with you that my earlyish 7222 LGB Sound is pretty poor in comoarison to the latest in the Trainline Malletts. But I guess that most LGB Sounds are better than none.
