LGB “D” designation

Hi Everyone,

I’m looking into buying a new engine and have noticed that some of the models have a “D” after the model number. For example, I’ve seen 2080 and 2080D. What does this mean? Are they the same thing? Are there other designators?

Thanks much,

Jeff

These suffixes were only used on locos a good few years back - with 4 digit catalogue numbers.

Do not confuse the D suffix on a 4-digit model number (which, as said above, means "Dampf" = steam) with a "D marked" or "Digital Ready" gearbox - the latter is an LGB gearbox manufactured from the mid/late '90s onwards, which has four-wire connections (as opposed to the earlier 3-wire) to allow it to have a DCC decoder fitted without having to modify the gearbox wiring. In this case, the small capital "D" is embossed into the plastic of the gearbox bottom plate, separate from any stickers that might give you other information about the loco.

Jon.
