As the weather played nice , things progressed to the pondering point..the pavement isn't finished ..its to ponder

Indeed it is, I am currently working on a Boston Lodge lookalike in Foamboard (plastic coated) and lots of scribing. Wish it was all Brickwork like Mike has done, but scribing Slate finish is more of a random job and one that can get too samey if you do too much at once. Then of course there is the old arthritic hand complaining when scribing for too long..... Not saying that Mike has an easy job of it as I have done a Brick build on my line and it takes time and copious quantities of patience whatever you are scribing. Mike has done the war and peace of Foamboard Structures and very very well it has to be said.

Evilbay temptation was extreme
And a bargin arived...
After reading the cv address on a programming track..I assumed it was OK...unfortunately I assumed wrong..
The loco chip gave up,as a power buffer , had been fitted ...OK on anolog?.to the sound unit..which was plugged into a interface bord, as well as a xl plugged into the same bord. , the loco is mint..
Lesson learned..
New chip orderd,rewire required...
At the moment it's returned to anolog

So ,we removed the boddy to investigate..

I have orderd massoth XL chip..and will gut the interface bord , and switch ...and wire directly to the chip..

In the end, I whent for a Xls onbord decoda , plug and play ...plug in the Reed sensors and wheel sensor..
Wire the front lights /rear lights to 1 socket ect...and the cab /top light at the front on there own..
Sounds simple enough..

Then..as seems to be normal these days ..it was time to look at my older saxon meyers, it wasn't running..possibly motor ,or out of quartering..but it needed sorting..
Luckerly. It was just the quartering..removed motor block from loco..reset...turn it over by hand ..runs smooth...rebuild loco..test...
The traction axle wheel set showing signs of wear..crome wearing off..brass showing..so order new axle ect ..

So we got the new saxon on its 8 hour test run ...and as is normally the case with these locos .they are like a *Terminator * they just keep going..
Smoke is on function 2...and the new standing sounds are better...on 5?.either way I'm at a quandary ..do I put both black saxon meyers on the same address..

Down to see old friends, who have struggled with ill health..And there garden is overgrown, 10 years since a train ran here...7am this morning..jenny and I started...OK I drank coffee.. while jenny cleared stuff away..and I helped were I could..but by 9am..we had a train running..one of the late great John Steers locos..which was nice

Too true, it's great going back to basics sometimes, as you say, just a simple circle with no fancy bits, can be just as rewarding, and more relaxing than a massive set up with all the trimmings

Nice one Mike, and so kind of you to let Jenny join in , helping mates is a big part of what's this forum is all about , seem to remember many moons ago you supervising myself and netty not far from here with old Trevor's railway extensions.
I'm not sure who will help me keep the trains running in my old age or should my health become an issue , I doubt it will be Mrs J, she's falling apart already, bless her, so I'd better book you and Jenny early

Home, and 1st things 1st...
The late John Steers loco was placed on the track..anolog ,old...
Switched on the power...fired up the massoth..check the temp in the house 29..
And the loco ran sweetly,which in it self is wonderful, and probmatic, as I was intending on using it as a doner loco for parts.. but now it deserves to join the historic fleet as it is...
The railway worked fine..
And nothings melted ..
