Ah, yes, hedges! I've reduced the 75 metres of Leylandii to 50 since we moved in and am keeping it, partly because most forms a northerly windbreak and the rest are neighbour likes to be at least 2 metres high - so I keep my side about that and she has her side higher. Cutting is outsourced to a local chap who since 2022 has charged £350 (includes other odds and ends and occasional jobs for a nominal sum). This goes up to £400 next year, but I'll keep him on as he employs at least four other people now since he first startedf with his partner.
The 25 metres which has gone has been replaced by bird friendly mixed hedge (for "bird friendly" read "sharp and spiky and prickly" with varied colours, flowers and berries. This I like to do myself, by hand with secateurs, hedge clippers and occasionally hand loppers - a long job, but very relaxing and, since I got hearing aids, wonderfully soundful as pretty well each type of hedge has it's own sound.
