Just starting a Garden Railroad, have plenty of room over 1000' x 1000' . Picked up 1600 ft of track so far and only 10 turnouts. It will be a dead rail track. Dont know if there is a remote that can go 500 to 1000 ft to control the trains, Going to go with air solenoids to control the turnouts. Have a 7.5" gauge Railroad there now. 40359279_10160836468035013_8602353142044033024_o.jpg

Well, if you're going with battery power and RC, you don't necessarily need to worry about the distance the TX will cover, as most model railway Electronic Speed Controllers (ESC) have cruise control, so if the signal is lost, the loco will continue at the same speed until the signal re-connects. This feature also actually allows you to switch the TX off to save on signal battery and watch the train go round.

Just don't get a marine ESC as they do the opposite - for obvious reasons :oops:

Welcome, Dash - impressive backyard you have there! Hope the new line is going to supplement the 7.5" line, not replace it?

Jon.

No , it will not replace it. We keep on adding track but just a little harder than laying g scale track. Would like to mirror it in G scale.

You will want a Wi-Fi based system. This allows multiple base stations and "roaming". No single base station can give you 1,000 feet or even 500 feet.

Wouldn't you want to be that far away from your Pride and Joy's? Things do have a habit of going awry, and I'd want a fighting chance to catch an airborne loco
