IP engineerings Jack gearbox is a weakspot on this kit. Having had 2 sets of gears strip I decided to look around for something better.
After much googling about I found Scale link Ltd who provide accessories mostly for the smaller scales.
I have fitted these steel and brass gears as a replacement for the plasticine gears originally supplied .
It changes the ratio from 16.1 to 27.1 which gives a slower speed and you will need to modify/drill out the gearbox housing to accept the new gears as they are not an exact fit. The worm bore will need to be drilled out from 2mm to 2.5mm as well. Make sure the worm gear is a tight fit on the motor shaft and the gear on the axle will need loctite or similar to secure it. Leave the brass cap off the end of the gearbox which will allow you to oil the the gearbox when needed.
Here the link and the Gearset I used was SLGS02

Many thanks for the link. Exactly what I needed to complete a "forgotten" job sitting in a box at the back of the bench. Like the "plasticine" gears. Sums it up quite nicely and sounds much better than spastic plastic.

Cheers
