INHERITED COLLECTION

Before I mived from Hemel Hempstead I had a major thin out of stuff. Some Trains other all sorts of stuff that could make a little. I used Ebay and found that 12 Lots oer week was mire then enough taking roughly a Day after you have listed them, fafged about with the Money Issues, Packed and Posted them all together with advising buyers that things were posted etc. i think Ebay now does that Auto but you still need to update Ebay that the item has been posted.

As for International, did quite a bit of that but the Post from UK is stinging and you really need to be able to quote the costs up front so accurate wights and not forgetting the packing weight then research for the Cost of Postage. I usually advise on each item ‘Outside if UK’ buyers to contact before bidding. But there is always the numpty that will not and expect Internal UK Postage cost to somewhere the other side of the world.

Good luck, I do not envy you the work getting that lot sold.

I think they have also been listed on the Garden Railways trading FB page too - Garden Railway Trading Group

Problem with these sites is they are "closed groups". You have got to have a definite interest, be a member and check in regularly or it all gets lost in the mire of all the other listings. Your collections' exposure maybe limited as will the prices be. They also have rules about providing pictures and pricing which they may or may not wish to enforce - Pressure from other sellers on the site ?

Widest exposure and the best prices achieved will probably be either with an Ebay listing or through a specialised auction house. Ebay can be hard work but once you get used to it and make use of all the "tools", methods and "tricks of the trade" at your disposal, like using standardised listing formats, it's not too arduous a task.

I stand by my 20 items per 8 hours work. I did have the benefit of my village post office 200 yards down the road from where I live. I loaded up with all the necessary postage labels and packing materials (check your local supermarket and shops and ask nicely). The local sub postmaster was happy to accept a load of correctly labeled and marked up packages and an open cheque (!) in the morning on my "post days" and I'd come back end of the day to pick up the tracking receipts so there was no hanging around. Try to group items with similar themes and packed sizes in sales - it gives you a good opportunity to offer postage discounts for buyers of multiple lots and thereby increase achieved prices. Work out where your buyers live - don't be afraid to offer overseas shipping on at least some items.

I'm interested that you also have a large OO collection to dispose of as well. Probably a bit late now but the auction house route might be the easiest and near as profitable route for you. 2 large collections with a good few "star" items would be very tempting to the right auction house. Those collections would probably need feature sales of their own that the house would promote heavily. You could probably negotiate some good rates with those number of items. The old bugbear with conventional auctions, in the days before widespread online bidding, would have been the practice of "ringing" by traders to artificially limited sale prices to boost their profits. I think that risk has been minimised now for the aforesaid reason. However, the auction houses themselves have a practice of bundling "bread and butter" items, seeding with a higher value item" to speed up sales. That practise can result in lower prices being realised than Ebay where, if you have chosen to, all lots are sold individually. The real benefit of a specialised auction house handling the sale is that they offer a "turnkey" solution - You just hand them the items they do the rest, including those sometimes inevitable annoying returns and complaints. Max

Though I have a FB account, my original account and profile was deleted (by me), however some shops now advertise via FB, and I needed an account to view the pages fully. My account has no personal detail, I never login to other sites via FB, and i don't join groups.

Like you I keep my FB presence to a minimum but some of the FB pages listed in this thread are closed groups so you need to join the group to see the content.

Facebook chucked me off as I wouldn't send them a photo so I would not be able to see it.

I also don't do Facebook. I value too highly what little privacy can be maintained in this electronic age. So, even though I'm curious, I won't be seeing the listing either.

BDR3524 Not sure how quick you want to off load but the prices shown on ebay seem a little high, you seem to be asking as new prices when its second hand with no warranty others may have different ideas?

Most of them are as new just taken out of boxes and laid on the track, what has been run, low run time, have been priced accordingly. But in no rush. The prices include delivery and pp fees.
Thank you very much, much appreciated.
