It must be weatherproof and robust. and, often lights!!!! cool lights for interest. and sometimes, glow in the dark paint -like on out door lamp shade-invisible at a times, until everything off and total dark, then tell tale glow. Just fun for me. Sometimes I have used UV LEDs to light station clock, or, light the glow paint-
I don't let my work stay outside too long, Colorado is high UV and temp swings are extreme over the year. My stuff gets handled and changed around a lot.
I will chose a building, car, subject from a photo, plan, etc and imitate it.
Sometimes I will see something as I travel around Colorado , New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming and will mentally stash it, or use my phone for photos to help later.
Sometimes I do get an 'original' inspiration as well.
My models are almost always very detailed and always compatible in size and feel to Pola.
I like well proportioned details and square lines, clean and more subdued paint-the eye picks it all up and I cannot stand oversized window frames, etc.
i start, and become engrossed, finishing in one go, one day, typically. They have gone well past midnight when im enthralled.
i started in wood, but now use heavy plastic, and styrofoam for adobe and stucco.
I am, I think, rather good with hand tools, tiny things, and precision, (compared to what i see as the average, but not as to the pros-like mrs peel, a talented amateur LOL) but, i will only do the work necessary to be functional, and robust and good to look at. That is to say, I am the opposite of meticulous and planned. I consider myself almost slapdash in some ways. But what I build is solid, and nice to look at as far as my eye goes.
I have a lack of patience and free time. And as much as I love trains and modeling, deep down, compared to outdoor activities, and exercise, I try to keep my time investment reasonable. I could turn into a guy at the bench, very internalized and oblivious. And out of shape.
I simply believe in get the job done, and I needn't be perfect, just close enough to make me happy. I am always pressed for time. I am also prone to analysis paralysis, so I try to execute.
Because of my mental immersion, I find when I build, it is a return to childhood and it is a great mental vacation from my work. Typically soft music occasional cuppa, isolation, very internal. I love having a finished new toy to use, asap. I have no unfinished projects. i start and the thrill is the final toy.
