Horse Car for the C&RG,,better pics

Riograndad

Model Railroading, boats and oil painting,
Country flag
Added better pics, could actually get outside today!!!!Ages ago, someone bought back some horse models from a holiday, not knowing what to do with them ,just left in a draw,,,,,then perchance,a loal rancher ask the railroad for a railroad car to transport horses, for round ups etc,(I really need to get out more :) :))anyway an old flat car was used as a base, new floor was fabricated from plasticard, and work started.Could not find prototype so made it up as i went along,I wanted an "old" look to the car,and room for the horses, other than that didnt matter, decided that an access door one end to allow the drovers to check the animals while train on the move, connects to drovers caboose, same end has storage room for food and water etc,so it ended up looking like an old converted box car,all made from plasticard, grabrails and brakewheel donated from the flatcar, rivet and bolt mouldings added, together with bucket, paintbrush bristle straw, painted, lettered, weathered,,,,,only thing to do now is some rollup type blinds to keep the weather out and stop the horses "spooking",,,,mmmm some old bandages in the kitchen cupboard, now if i stained em and then,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Re: Horse Car for the C&RG

Apart from being a really nice piece of modelling (said he, covetously), it is something that not many of us would think to model but, when you bring it to the fore, it seems obvious really.

Great car and detail - and a great piece of lateral thinking!

A very nice piece of modelling, very professional looking. I think Mick's last sentence summarises it perfectly.
