Hello, new member in Essex. I've just started building the 'Road to Nowhere'. A quick question if I may, is Peco G45 track compatible with LGB? Thanks in advance.

It can be done, but the section of the rail is a different 'height', and you need the specific joiners.

Has anyone successfully done this? I need to modify my track plan slightly however some lengths of Peco are all I have available at the moment. Obviously the difference in rail heights is but one potential problem. Hints and tips gratefully received!

I would stick with one, or the other. It depends a lot on what you want?
LGB track is big and chunky, but will survive all-but a nuclear strike!
Peco track is 'finer', so looks more prototypical, but is not (in my opinion) as robust.

If it is for use inside, then not a problem, and you being closer to it, it will look 'better'.

There is an issue with Peco points and LGB skates.

However, if you're looking at longer runs, there's nothing wrong with using LGB points as long as you are prepared for the necessary joiners and track bed adjustment where the two meet.

Peco is code 250 while LGB is code 332 - the code refers to the rail height but don't ask me what that equates to in millimeters or inches :mask::mask:

Wellcome Lancer. I'd go with all that is said above.

LGB's ubiquitous code 332 rail/45 mm gauge track system has a number of "straight fit" compatibles - Bachmann (brass) USA Trains, Aristocraft, Accucraft, Piko, Trainline, etc'. All sold in the UK and are mostly available new and 2nd hand. There may be some differences in sleeper spacing appearance and spacing between them though. There are some specialist suppliers that use LGB's rail as a basis for some useful track items in configurations the mainstream suppliers don't, like Garden Railway Specialist's Double Slips. Be aware there is another maker of a Code 332 rail based system, Tenmille, while it is compatible with LGB types it require special adaptors to join.

The beauty of LGB type is, apart from its robustness, is that just about any bit of track geometry can be obtained off the shelf to meet your operational heart's desire. Max

In the thread linked by Philp post 3 shows the joiner with LGB and Peco, posted by my bad self. There is a piece of Flat Strip for current passing, but I have to say I did not use it relying on the Isolated interface as Track Section Breaks for ‘Power Districts’.
 
Welcome Lancer! What part of Essex are you - I'm up in the "Honorary Suffolk" bit around Colchester.....? ;)

Others have already explained the difference in rail profile/height between Peco and LGB track - personally I'd avoid the Peco unless you particularly like the more realistic lower profile it offers, but others have and do happily use it.
There are many options of "Code 332" G45 track - LGB, Piko, Trainline45, Aristocraft, AMS/AML and others - and I've used all of those in different places on my line - they are all pretty much 100% compatible, especially if you use rail clamps rather than the push-on fishplates.
If cost is an issue, don't be afraid of buying secondhand track provided is is physically in good condition - even if heavily tarnished and blackened, it will clean up very well and still give you many years of service.... just look out for any real damage like broken rail chairs and sleepers, the rail itself is pretty much indestructible in normal use.

Welcome from isolation. I'm on the edge of nowhere (Norfolk coast) and it's nice to know there might be a direct connection in the offing! :giggle: :giggle: :giggle: If you're not averse to buying secondhand track I have a surplus. You can contact me on the 'conversations' function top right (envelope) but I can't sort anything for a couple of weeks or so.

Lots of mud. Although it's disappearing as the runners take a lot home with them each year.
