Hello from North East Wales

Hi, just the customary new member "hello".

I've had G Scale (US Outline 1/29 scale) for over 20 years, both as an indoor exhibition layout, and a small start in the garden. Sadly both are no longer with us, due to change in circumstances over the years.
I still have all the locos and Rolling Stock, plus a decent amount of track and I am now toying with doing something outdoors again, so this seemed the ideal place to come for inspiration!

Croeso- welcome, Martyn! You'll find inspiration and advice (should you need it) on here. We are a broad church, ranging from rivet-counters to those who want something roundy-roundy in the garden. The good thing is that we are all enthusiasts and there is no snobbery: Rule 8 is strictly observed, i.e. it's your railway, so do what you like. Oh, and there is humour...apparently. I'm sure others will be along soon to greet you.

Wellcome Martyn. Yes, another to greet you has arrived. Sounds like you have all the basic ingredients in place, do tell us more so we can help get you going. I started 23 years ago US std gauge outline 1:29 like you and veered off to the 120.3 scale 3ft gauge. Of slightly riveted persuasion but that in itself is limited by my ignorance. I can only count up to 10 rivets then I'm lost. Look forward to your posts.

Welcome aboard, I spent a fair bit of time in the 80s &90s over that way volunteering on the Llangollen railway, currently modeling Isle of man/Harz (HSB) railways.

Thanks for your greetings folks, most kind of you.
Just to add a little more, as I don't currently have a G scale layout. I do have photos (prints) somewhere of my old 1/29 US outline "Oakland 3rd Street Yard" which went to a few UK Model Railway shows in the mid 2000s, which was a 16ft (later extended to 26ft) shunting layout based on Southern Pacific practice, based on a small HO scale track plan. I scratchbuilt some of the rolling stock, using Aristocraft bogies, as well as an Alco RS-18 on Aristocraft Power bogies, and I still have these, in storage currently (photos from a display at a local show).
The Aristocraft Budd Railcar has been detailed and an interior fitted, and all locos were sound fitted with analogue sound units (mainly Sierra Soundtraxx). I also settled on Kadee #1 scale couplings for hands free shunting (though these still work with Aristo & Bachmann knuckle couplings I found, despite being smaller). The layout used Peco Gauge 1 track components for a finer appearance, and the only issue found was the deeper wheel flanges on the odd LGB wagon. If I ever get into the garden I would use conventional G Scale track however.

So there we are, I hope to gain inspiration from the group to perhaps be able to get something done in this scale again!

Well, we can see Liverpool from the hills behind us, but the River Dee, Wirral and the River Mersey make it a fairly long detour, sadly!

Welsh, Scots and a great many Irish I believe. Although nowadays it seems most of Liverpool comes to North Wales, in the Summer months especially, which is great for the local tourism industry.

Fantastic stuff, I have considered something similar, like a "tuning fork" yard design, say 12ft long, or similar. I really like what you have done there!
