H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

Re: H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

Emerging under what was know as Fluffy Bridge but I bags it now can have the more railway name of Junction Bridge :D

Counterclockwise around the reverse loop.

And steaming out of Church Cutting across a short embankment before Junction bridge. :)
IMG_3129.JPG

That's all for today folks, and having checked out the forecast for the week it might be some days before 40PSI is seen on the gauge again :( Oh well not to worry the weather won't stop me dreaming :)

Re: H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

Got a lucky break today. Free time aligned with sun and calm warm winter late afternoon. Hmm what shall I do ::)

Sit and ready, or run a train ;)
IMG_3141.JPG

Why run a train of course, Manawanui in steam in fact :)

Upgrade approaching Junction Bridge (the new name for Fluffy Bridge)

Re: H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

On on leg of the Y junction coming under Junction Bridge.

Back again after having done a loop of the reverse loop :o

Continuing up hill towards Church Lane level crossing.

Re: H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

Downgrade this time having come off Junction bridge onto the embankment between Junction Bridge and Nina's Trestle.
IMG_3148.JPG

Another view of the incomplete new deck, SWMBO still engrossed in her book while the budgies continue to chirp away.
IMG_3151.JPG

View from the deck. Trains sure feel like they are going somewhere as they appear and disappear from view when you're sitting on the deck. :D
IMG_3152.JPG

Re: H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

Thats grand. i like the 'distant' view from the deck.

Re: H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

yes, the rails meandering into the distance
puts it into perspective

I like the whole "journey and disappearing and appearing" thing, too

Re: H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

Thanks guys :) I'm really enjoying this lengthened run and varying directions.

Another Sunday yippee the sun put it's hat and coat on and came out to play...

...it needed it's hat and coat on as while it shone it was still pretty cold, well by Tawa standards anyway ;)

Otto as you see has it's roof back on for now.

Re: H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

Otto coming under Junction Bridge through, I suppose you'd refer to it as, the upper upper leg of the junction. :-

And the lower leg of the junction off the end of Kakariki station.

The sawmill came out for an airing too ;)

Up at the log loading area there must have been making the most of a break in the weather too to be working on a Sunday ;)

Re: H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

Lovely, John.

Re: H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

Excellent stuff John.
The new extension is a masterpiece as it really makes your, already really fine layout, actually more than double the value!

I am looking at changing my little "quarry' point to point shuttle, into a double reverse loop but it is proving a little difficult at present due to the topography and the wall amongst others.
I have already converted the 'local meandering line' shuttle into a double reverse loop (with auto switches for DCC)

Is your reverse loop just for steam and battery or do you have a manual/auto switch for the polarity when using DC track power?

Re: H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

Blush :) :)

Mike at present the reverse loop is for for battery and live steam only but is insulated at two spots, as is the upper leg of the Y junction, so at some stage I can incorporate a manual switch for changing the polarity should the need arise (and I understand properly how to do it ;) ). DC track power is still fully functioning on the original mainline loop and along the lower leg of the Y around to the steaming up area and sidings. So visiting DC loco's and H&M's track powered locos are still catered for. ;)

I'll do it for you next time I'm over.

Re: H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

Thanks Gav.

Where ever possible I try and have this day in July of work. Before children I used to ski, now I run trains, but then before children I didn't have a garden railway so I have something to than them for :-*

Okay, on to today's trains. Starting with a general view from the almost completed aviary deck.
IMG_3373.JPG

Reverse angle. Sorry about the figure on the deck, SWMBO is much less scarey :-
IMG_3381.JPG

Arrh, the Dubs A, that's better ;)
IMG_3374.JPG

Not the best shot but gives you an idea that you can watch much of the reverse loop from the deck.
IMG_3375.JPG

Re: H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

A few more views of the Dubs A from the new deck. First passing through Church Cutting...
IMG_3378.JPG

Downhill between the cattle stops approaching the junction to go under Junction Bridge (funny that ;) )
IMG_3384.JPG

And under Junction Bridge.
IMG_3387.JPG

Manawanui this time, viewed from the deck passing through the steam up bay sidings.

Re: H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

Manawanui coming of the other leg of the 'Y' approaching Kakariki station yard.
IMG_3390.JPG

Through Kakariki station (the station building was hiding inside due to possible showers ;) )
IMG_3391.JPG

Manawanui up over Nina's Trestle while the Dubs remains in the loop at Kakariki.
IMG_3395.JPG

Having just come out of Church Cutting before crossing over Junction Bridge.
IMG_3396.JPG

Favourite shot of the day with Manawanui on the elevated section of the reverse loop. ;D

Re: H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

Time for another update ;D

First up when pruning large branches over hanging your railway one always covers the track so if a branch falls quicker than your expect it won't damage the track :) or not >:(
IMG_3425.JPG

Still it was easily fixed, though if I hadn't had a suitable length of track left over from the extension it would have been a bit more of a pain. And once fixed one then must test :D
IMG_3429.JPG

Of course just in case there was unseen damaged elsewhere, the full railway needed testing :P
IMG_3426.JPG

We like testing we do ;D
IMG_3431.JPG

Re: H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

Been testing out how I might use a solar powered pump in the pond too. Though intention is to use it to discharge in a waterfall but for now a squirt will do.
IMG_3427.JPG

Tonight Kaitaki was used to continue the testing, monitored from high above. :o
IMG_3432.JPG

Steam on a Friday, now that's my way to unwind at the end of the working week :D :P ;D

Re: H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

Just been catching up with your photos, John. You get some really wonderful light in your garden which shows off your railway really well. I like the new deck over the reverse loop - I imagine that will get a lot of use in the summer. A great set of photos of an excellent railway with plenty of atmosphere (and some great pinchable ideas).

Re your Solar Powered Pump, I got one a couple of Years ago now. The Shop said when they tested it it squirted around 6ft. They were probably not far off as mine lifts a good 3ft to my Water Feature thingy.

Testing is good, even if not only a train. Speaking as a frustrated retired System Tester.,mesting PC software never gets out of your blood. Which is why I can foul up Windows so easily!
