A great afternoon and evening out, enjoyed it immensely and Lorraine's catering was brilliant - especially the mugs of steaming sweet potato soup as the dusk began to fall.
Very pleased to note that both my Rugen 0-8-0 and my Kitson Meyer "stormed the pass" up the diabolical gradient to Arbor Summit with no hesitation - the Kitson even managing it after Mike loaded her up with several extra cars!

Thank you for your highly detailed and informative reply.

Do I detect a little bit of tongue in cheek here...? ;)

In case it helps, it's the Piko gravel works kit, easily available commercially and a very useful building. This one is on the small mine works part of Mike's extensive layout, pretty much separated from the main lines and left to its own devices most of the day, a shuttle unit running the train backwards and forwards.

Sorry, didn't know you required a a detailed reply. Don't know the make, or the make or the dimensions, next time I'm there I'll take a tape measure ;):bigsmile::bigsmile:

Thanks Jack for posting some fantastic photo's of Mikes Railroad  Sorry that me and Sara could not attend we try our best for the next one .
Point Rock looks great Mike really love your new buildings and the LED's look fantastic a credit to all your hard work

Hi Fellows
'Twas a goodly day...and evening, we got some nice comments from the visiting folks especially about the now practically complete layout lighting.... last guest left at 11pm! A long but very enjoyable day.
It was nice to have a lot of other visiting locos to watch, drink a liesurely tea and let my ones just bask in the sun.
Thank you for posting some photos Steve and I am glad that you, Gizzy and Jon enjoyed yourselves , I certainly did!!!.
I will post some photies of me own soon. Especially the new addition to PointRock...a newly kit-bashed movie theatre complete with led highlights and front house lighting...cooo... I don't hear you say
J2s:
The quarry building is in actual fact a combination of three buildings...a customised Piko Gravel works that has been weathered, a totally repainted and weathered Piko Co-Op grain elevator and also a heavily customised Playmobile conveyor. There are then lots of little ancillary buildings surrounding it and a fair bit of lighting.......measurements to follow :laugh:
Here is a link to a few photies of it by night http://www.gscalecentral.net/Night-workers-m169706 < Link To http://www.forum.gscalece...t-workers-m169706
and a slightly distressed piccy of it

It was a great afternoon & evening Mike, thank you.
Thank for Lorraine for providing us with such tasty nibbles & refreshments.

Hi Stuart
I am really glad that you and Alan had a good time
I have managed to get some shots extracted from the video footage that Tony shot on the day.
Unfortunately there aren't any from before he arrived

I use DC Aristo Train engineer with 3 receivers (mainline and two shuttles) but have very recently installed a massoth DCC unit with a BIG switch to allow the use of DC or DCC on the mainline. I was to find out that the Massoth wireless signal completely swamps the TE , so total loss of control of the shuttles occurred while the mainline was on DCC. They just carried on....unless a crash might occur....

Jon's (zerogee) lovely Kitson was put through its paces as we loaded it up with car after car. It weighs a ton and runs on LGB mechanisms and did very well up the incline to Arbour Summit (up to 15% gradient!)

Running beautifully down the slope from PointRock as the Quarry shuttle pauses above.

We tested the Kitson to its limit as I load on a heavy crane car and its tender from my work train

Also on the line at the same time (the first time that my newly installed Massoth was given a thourough working) was Steves triple heaeded 'Shorties'. These did pretty well but Steve will be adding more weight to give even better pulling power.

More to come in next post

Gizzy wrestles a snake as the Class 66 'slips' by but hardly unnoticed as the sound certainly lets you know of it presence.

Crates litter the place as visiting locos and rolling find their way onto the line.

Steve seems to making a move but not sure what for!

Next up was my 66 with ESU sound DCC. Lovely to see it put through all the digital features...GREAT SOUND!!

I know...its not Us and its not Rio Grande but these things ply their way through Colchester and and I do like the model so it comes out of its storage and makes 'guest appearances' over the pond on the Beaver Creek.
It waits at Beaver Creek station as it cranks up

Its 1:29 scale seems dwarfed by the 1:20 and 1:22.5 rolling stock each side of it.

It climbs with engine roaring up the incline to Arbour Summit

After the 66 the light was beginning to fade so I decided to get a passenger train on with lights and things. I was going to put on my 'California Zephyr' but plumped for the Amtrack
Assembling the loooonnnnggg train

As the light fades and the home-made soup, beer and coffee flows a group exchange jokes and anecdotes..what could be a better way to spend the time..friends, banter and trains and twinkly lights

Now back on DC TE the Amtrack trundled trough the evening and night
These piccies are pushing the video camera to its limit so not quite as good as if they were taken with a normal camera

The layout lights were all twinkly and the newly kitted out sawmill was ablaze as the workers went about their toil

I will post some more night time stills (taken with a stills camera) showing the new lights and buildings including the PointRock movie theatre but these will go into a different thread

Heres the first of 4 videos taken on the day this one is Jons Kitson and at the end a short clip showing the little problem of two locos running dcc at the same time controled by two different people
Thanks to Mike and Lorraine for a great day once more
will do the other vids in a few days
